About The Position

The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations. The Opportunity The Sr. Environmental Engineer - Water is responsible for leading water management, compliance, and permitting efforts at Jerritt Canyon. This role provides technical expertise and strategic direction for site-wide water programs, including water balance, groundwater and surface water monitoring, treatment systems, and regulatory compliance. This position works closely with Environmental, Operations, Engineering, and external stakeholders to ensure water-related risks are managed effectively and that the site is positioned for both compliance and future operational readiness. The role plays a key part in advancing water infrastructure planning, supporting permitting efforts, and driving continuous improvement across water management systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydrology, or a related field (required)
  • 5+ years of experience in water management, environmental compliance, or related roles
  • Strong understanding of water regulations, permitting, and compliance requirements
  • Experience with water balance development, hydrologic/hydrogeologic concepts, and monitoring systems
  • Familiarity with water treatment systems and performance evaluation
  • Experience managing consultants, projects, and technical studies
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and drive work independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; experience with environmental data systems or modeling tools is a plus
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement

Responsibilities

  • Lead site-wide water management programs, including groundwater, surface water, and process water systems
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable water permits and regulatory requirements (state and federal)
  • Own and maintain the site water balance, including evaluation of inflows, outflows, storage, and system performance
  • Provide technical oversight for water monitoring programs, including sampling plans, data quality, and interpretation
  • Support and lead water-related permitting efforts, including modifications, renewals, and new applications
  • Interface with regulatory agencies and support inspections, audits, and reporting requirements
  • Evaluate and optimize water treatment systems, including identifying performance gaps and improvement opportunities
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operations on design, planning, and implementation of water infrastructure projects
  • Support hydrogeologic evaluations, dewatering strategies, and seepage management programs
  • Review and interpret environmental data to identify trends, risks, and compliance concerns
  • Lead or support investigations related to water-related incidents or compliance deviations
  • Coordinate and manage consultants and contractors supporting water programs
  • Develop and improve site procedures, plans, and standards related to water management
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff and environmental technicians
