The Primary Purpose of this position is to lead complex technical efforts and mentor junior staff in the development of studies, specifications, and performance evaluations for Exelon's utility infrastructure, including electric and/or gas distribution, transmission, substations, communications systems, and related systems. This role drives integrated systems analysis and budget planning for major projects across Exelon's operations, providing strategic recommendations based on in-depth evaluations of systems and processes. It also oversees financial analysis and ensures alignment with project objectives, facilitating collaboration across departments to resolve challenges and optimize outcomes. Work may involve leading design reviews, coordinating with external contractors, validating engineering calculations, managing project documentation workflows, and developing cost-benefit analyses. Extended hours may be required during storms or other energy delivery emergencies. The Senior Engineering Tech Specialist – Transmission GIS SME specifically serves as the technical lead for Transmission Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) data management, asset modeling, reporting, and system support. This role is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of transmission asset records, supporting transmission engineering projects, producing regulatory and operational reporting, and providing GIS expertise for transmission overhead and underground facilities. The position works closely with Transmission Engineering Lead Responsible Engineers (LREs), Area Maintenance Engineers (AMEs), Standards & Asset Management, Transmission and Distribution Operations, and GIS support teams to ensure transmission assets are accurately represented throughout the project lifecycle, from design through construction and as-built documentation. The role will also support CMMS and GIS initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field and 4 or more years of relevant experience, or 6 or more years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem-solving approaches.
  • Knowledge of construction, operations or engineering principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of complex field test equipment.
  • Broad knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform routine assignments for a specific discipline installation, or service.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience with ESRI ArcGIS products, including ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, geodatabases, editing workflows, spatial analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience maintaining and updating utility network asset data within a GIS environment.
  • Understanding of electric transmission and distribution system design, construction, and operations.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, construction packages, schematics, and utility mapping documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Access.

  • Serve as the Transmission GIS Subject Matter Expert (SME) for overhead and underground transmission facilities.
  • Maintain, update, and ensure the accuracy of transmission asset records within GIS and related asset management systems.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews of GIS and asset data to ensure compliance with standards and data governance requirements.
  • Review engineering designs, as-built drawings, construction packages, and project documentation for GIS implementation and asset updates.
  • Support transmission capital projects, including line relocations, underground cable installations, and maintenance programs.
  • Partner with Transmission Engineering, Asset Management, Operations, and internal stakeholders to resolve data issues and support project execution.
  • Develop GIS queries, reports, and analytical products to support asset management, operational decision-making, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Perform asset analysis, including feeder mileage calculations, asset inventories, infrastructure assessments, and regulatory reporting support.
  • Support GIS system enhancements, process improvements, data migration, and implementation activities associated with GIS platform initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership, training, and guidance on GIS best practices while supporting modernization initiatives.
