About The Position

The Automations and Electrical Controls Engineer has responsibility for overall Automations and Electrical Maintenance Operations at the Aiken manufacturing facility. They are responsible for all aspects of the electrical maintenance processes, and uses engineering skills to drive improvements in safety, productivity, and quality, while reducing costs and assuring environmental compliance. This role reports to the Maintenance Leader and supports all technical, manufacturing, and quality processes, with no direct reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Five years of automation and control engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong safety awareness, commitment, and safety leadership
  • Experience working with 480 V
  • Experience leading projects (Capital, Focused Improvement)
  • Strong knowledge of PLC based controls, HMI applications, and programming (Siemens)
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by operational support needs
  • Knowledge of database systems
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) to effectively communicate with people across all levels of the organization

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Siemens PLC strongly preferred (Variable Frequency Drives)
  • Six Sigma/Lean manufacturing experience preferred
  • Understanding of Profi-Net and Ethernet Communication and Network Technology
  • Understanding of 15 KV Electrical Distribution
  • Understanding of Coordinated Multi Drive System
  • Understanding of Siemens WinCC
  • Experience working with Siemens Step 7, Simotion Scout, Simocode, LAD
  • Understanding of Siemens PLCs and Process Automation

  • Experience utilizing SAP or other MMS programs and Microsoft Office products

  • Familiarization with lean manufacturing processes

  • Experience in mechanical and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
  • Familiarity with equipment criticality rankings, FMEAs, RCAs, and other reliability tools.
  • Complete Sinamics S120/G120 Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Responsibilities

  • Lead Safety for an injury free work environment, including educating team members on safe maintenance work processes and procedures, adhering to and improving safety policies, ensuring a safe and compliant work environment, and communicating safety standards to external parties.
  • Develop and execute training plans for maintenance personnel, create a continuous learning environment, co-lead and coach the maintenance workforce, promote a work environment of trust and respect, serve as a technical expert, and work closely with the Operation Department to improve machine performance and employee efficiency.
  • Provide electrical, controls, and automation support to automation projects, plant production, packaging, and utility operations.
  • Support Plant Maintenance and Operations Teams in system and equipment troubleshooting and technology transfer.
  • Train maintenance technicians and operators on new technology for proper maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Act as a Reliability Champion for Motor Circuit Analysis and thermography PdM programs.
  • Support the break down analysis process and create One Point Lessons (OPLs) for knowledge transfer.
  • Ensure the proper routine electrical maintenance of Plant equipment.
  • Promote a service and quality culture to meet/exceed established goals.
  • Develop and execute Preventive and Predictive Maintenance programs.
  • Improve the reliability of plant power systems through preventative and predictive maintenance and capital improvements.
  • Identify and capture opportunities for reliability performance and cost improvement.
  • Maintain an up-to-date and complete set of as-built electrical and controls documentation, including an automation device database (HMIs, VFDs, PLCs, IP addresses).
  • Provide instrumentation, PLC, HMI, VFDs, AspenTech, and hardware support to the Plant Maintenance Staff.
  • Serve as the Site Electrical expert for all voltages between 5VDC to 12.47kV.
  • Perform electrical and automation troubleshooting by diagnosing problems using various techniques and tools such as computers, PLCs, voltage meters, current meters, oscilloscopes, and electrical formulas.
  • Support Plant team and MTCE Leadership in performing skills and training needs assessment for maintenance craft personnel, and develop/assist with execution of training plans to advance their troubleshooting, electrical safety, and programming skills.
  • Perform root cause failure analysis and develop troubleshooting guides for site equipment.
