About The Position

The Senior Electrical Engineer contributes to the release of new products as part of a cross-functional development group. The role provides support and leadership to other engineers, manages a variety of tasks in a dynamic environment, and solves complex problems where little or no precedence exists. The engineer designs new computer room air conditioning (CRAC) products and leads engineering tasks for projects, guiding other electrical engineers to meet project timelines. The position collaborates with mechanical, electrical, and process engineering teams, as well as production and offering teams, on design reviews, cost metrics, and customer pain points. It supports product development from design through prototypes, testing, manufacturing pilot builds, and implementation of product changes to address field issues. The role also supports CRAC controls development, design for manufacturability, failure mode analysis, and cost-reduction initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a related degree from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 7 years of career experience in new product development as an individual contributor.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a dynamic team, and to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to mentor and guide less experienced team members.
  • Demonstrated history of delivering quality products to market and understanding and respecting phases of the product development process.
  • Excellent project management and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • Knowledge of NEC (NFPA 70), IEEE 519, and UL 508A.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CREO 4.0 or later (preferred CAD software).
  • Knowledge of UL 60335-2-40 or equivalent CSA/UL standards and UL 508A electrical panels.
  • VFD programming and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with communications and interconnect standards and protocols, including RS485, CAN, and Ethernet.

Responsibilities

  • Design new computer room air conditioning (CRAC) products.
  • Collaborate across mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, process engineering, production, and offering teams on design reviews, cost metrics, and customer pain points.
  • Perform engineering calculations using traditional methods to verify design requirements.
  • Create, evaluate, select, and review electrical box and panel layouts, ensuring appropriate component placement and selection and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Select and evaluate electrical components, instrumentation, and control devices.
  • Design, develop, create, review, and revise revision-controlled 2D and 3D CAD for electromechanical assemblies, point-to-point wire harnesses, wire routings, wire and fuse sizing, connection drawings, and customer-facing electrical schematics using a PDM tool.
  • Develop, create, review, and revise bills of material and product definitions in a PLM tool to support design reuse, manufacturing, quality, and service.
  • Develop solutions to complex problems where little or no precedence exists, using ingenuity and creativity.
  • Implement product changes to solve field issues and support the service department.
  • Lead engineering tasks for projects and guide other electrical engineers to meet project timelines.
  • Work with the software team to develop and verify CRAC system controls.
  • Support lab facilities with engineering prototypes and testing.
  • Support manufacturing during prototype and manufacturing pilot builds.
  • Participate in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (DFMEAs).
  • Identify cost-reduction opportunities and participate in designing and developing cost-reduction changes.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced team members.
