About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Electronics Rework & Prototype Assembly Specialist to execute first-time prototype builds and perform rework on complex PCBAs, wire harness integration, and product assembly in challenging environments. In this role, you will bridge the gap between engineering and production by performing precision electro-mechanical assemblies, assisting in troubleshooting circuit failures, and verifying assembly quality against IPC standards. You will also provide critical manufacturing support during new product development, contributing to process documentation, tooling, and functional verification testing.

Requirements

  • College degree in Electronics combined with 2 years of recent, hands-on relevant experience OR 5+ years of hands-on relevant experience
  • Active J-STD-001 IPC Class 3 Solder Certification for Electronic Assembly
  • Basic working knowledge of IPC-A-610 (PCBA Acceptance) and IPC/WHMA-A-620C (Wire Harness Assembly) standards
  • Strong foundational knowledge of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protocols and both low- and high-voltage safety procedures
  • Demonstrated proficiency with standard shop fabrication, assembly, and hand/power tools

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in interpreting complex mechanical drawings and electrical schematics preferred
  • Experience utilizing documentation and task management tools (Google Workspace, JIRA) preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a collaborative mindset across cross-functional teams and external stakeholders preferred

Responsibilities

  • Construct initial electro-mechanical prototype assemblies and execute precise PCBA rework, including advanced hand-soldering, component replacement, trace cutting, jumper wire installation, and conformal coating application or removal per engineering dispositions
  • Perform detailed visual inspections of PCBAs, solder joints, and mechanical alignments to ensure compliance with IPC-A-610 and IPC Class 3 standards; interpret Bills of Materials (BOMs) to identify missing hardware or components
  • Build, rework, and integrate complex electrical wire harnesses in strict accordance with IPC/WHMA-A-620C guidelines
  • Assist engineers in diagnosing and troubleshooting circuit failures using electrical schematics and assembly prints; execute functional and quality verification tests on PCBAs and completed prototype units
  • Utilize mechanical measuring equipment (calipers, height gauges) to verify build dimensions, spatial alignments, strict tolerance requirements, knowledge of GD&T is a plus
  • Support engineering during New Product Introduction (NPI) and design transitions by assisting with fabrication, custom assembly tooling, and drafting Work Instructions (SOPs) and build routers
  • Accurately log assembly results, design deviations, and rework details on build route sheets; perform routine maintenance on lab and assembly equipment per manufacturer procedures.
