About The Position

Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, serving 6.8 million residents across 68 Lower Peninsula counties. This role is crucial for ensuring the sustainable operation of our distribution, generation, and storage systems. The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead complex technical projects, collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, and potentially manage junior engineers and technicians. This position is located onsite at the General Meter facility in Jackson, MI, and requires the selected candidate to be within commuting distance or willing to relocate, with relocation assistance available for qualified individuals. Please note that this position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Proficient in design and calculation software
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of electric utility distribution planning, construction, operation, and maintenance
  • Working knowledge of electric utility operation (i.e. generation, transmission and distribution of three phase alternating current power)
  • Knowledge of applicable codes related to electronic engineering
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Bachelor's degree in from an ABET accredited program OR Engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license and 4+ years of experience in an advanced electrical engineering capacity
  • Associate's degree in from an ABET accredited program OR Engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license and 6+ years of experience in an advanced electrical engineering capacity

  • Knowledge of distribution planning principles is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of engineering tasks by operating computer-assisted design or engineering software and equipment
  • Ensure compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements by directing or coordinating installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, documentation, support, or testing activities
  • Prepare specifications for purchases of electrical equipment and materials and estimating material, labor, or construction costs for budget preparation
  • Ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements by preparing electrical systems specifications, technical drawings, or topographical maps and Investigate and resolve project issues in a timely manner
  • Design, control, and implement electrical systems and products and serve as the primary point of contact with clients for all electrical engineering project matters. Manage the development and implementation of electrical systems
  • Design, maintain, implement, or improve electrical instruments, facilities, components, equipment products, or systems for industrial, commercial, or domestic purposes
  • Collaborate with customers, coworkers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering products or projects and monitor project progress and budget, and prepare reports for upper management
  • Write reports and compile data regarding existing and potential electrical engineering projects and studies and provide technical support to other departments and personnel as needed
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary
