Sr Electrical Engineer

Leidos•Albuquerque, NM

About The Position

Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a highly motivated Senior Electrical Engineer to support complex, high-priority Department of Defense portfolios. The role drives Value Driven Design and advanced Model-Based Systems Engineering workflows, bridging systems architecture, parametric lifecycle modeling, and cross-functional engineering execution. The position supports defense systems and missions across land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace, including complex aerospace, missile, and advanced weapon systems. The engineer integrates specialty engineering disciplines, supports program execution and risk management, translates military standards into hardware requirements, and contributes technical planning and estimates for program work. The role also supports system-level verification and testing, including environmental stress screening, hardware-in-the-loop integration, and launch-readiness activities. The candidate must be a U.S. citizen and reside in or be willing to relocate to the Albuquerque, New Mexico, or Huntsville, Alabama area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science discipline, with a focus on electromagnetics.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, or at least 8 years with a master’s degree in science or engineering, working with complex aerospace, missile, or defense systems.
  • Demonstrated experience owning end-to-end systems engineering—including requirements, architecture, interfaces, integration, verification, and validation—on large or complex projects.
  • Experience with missile, high-speed flight, or advanced weapon systems, such as hypersonics, ballistic missiles, or interceptors.
  • Experience with requirements and configuration management tools such as DOORS or equivalent; familiarity with MBSE concepts and tools.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional engineering teams and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience briefing leadership and customers.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Albuquerque, NM area or Huntsville, AL.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience on hypersonic boost-glide, air-breathing hypersonic, or other high-Mach flight test or weapon programs.
  • Experience with responsibility for technical scope, cost, and schedule on government contracts.
  • Familiarity with RF and microwave simulation, testing, and facilities.
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-461 electromagnetic compatibility requirements.
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-464 electromagnetic effects and requirements.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-2169D requirements.
  • Experience in systems engineering of complex systems.
  • Direct experience with ND components or system design, development, or production.
  • Experience in electromagnetics within the NNSA nuclear complex.
  • Experience designing and executing experiments for strategic environments.
  • Experience with weapon systems and weapon system teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the integration of specialty engineering disciplines across programs to ensure robust, innovative, and compliant solutions.
  • Support program schedules, milestones, and deliverables, identifying and mitigating risks to specialty engineering performance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop strategies for optimizing system lifecycle performance, addressing technical challenges, and ensuring program success.
  • Provide expertise in specialty engineering areas such as nuclear hardness, system safety, EMI, EMC, and human systems engineering.
  • Ensure adherence to programmatic requirements, regulatory compliance, and company processes.
  • Partner with systems engineering teams to translate military standards into rigorous hardware requirements.
  • Support Control Account Managers by providing technical write-ups, work breakdowns, and schedule estimates for Earned Value Management, CapEx initiatives, and major competitive proposals.
  • Act as a certified test conductor or lead verification engineer to establish system-level test plans, environmental stress screening, HWIL integration, and launch-readiness countdown actions.
