About The Position

Milwaukee Tool is seeking a Sr. Electrical Engineer to join their Trade Tools New Product Development team in Brookfield, WI. This role involves leading the design, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of embedded electronics hardware and firmware. The engineer will be responsible for ideating and developing new technologies, evaluating performance and cost tradeoffs, and mentoring junior engineers. The position requires driving project schedules, communicating status updates, and applying a platform-use approach to designs. The Sr. Electrical Engineer will also build organizational capacity by providing technical guidance, participating in cross-functional design reviews, establishing best practices, and creating development tools. Collaboration with component suppliers and manufacturers for component selection and future product input is also a key aspect of this role.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, related engineering field, or foreign degree equivalent, and 2 years of relevant experience as an Electrical Engineer, or alternate related acceptable occupation; OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, related engineering field, or foreign degree equivalent, and 5 years of relevant experience as an Electrical Engineer, or alternate related acceptable occupation.
  • Work or academic experience must have included: System Design Power Management, ultra-low power embedded hardware, and firmware implementations
  • Designing embedded systems and interfacing with microcontrollers
  • C programing
  • Sensor system design, test methods, controls, and architectures

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, prototype, test, and troubleshooting of embedded electronics hardware and firmware.
  • Ideate, evaluate, and develop new technologies for applications.
  • Identify performance and cost tradeoffs of competing electronic design solutions.
  • Mentor, guide, and coach junior Engineers. May manage or lead a small team.
  • Drive urgency in project schedules and hold accountability for establishing and achieving key project metrics that meet the organization's needs.
  • Communicate status updates to other teams and mid-level management. Share lessons learned and design updates to other technical leaders.
  • Apply a platform use approach to all new designs, gathering and implementing design considerations for use in multiple product categories.
  • Build organizational capacity; provide technical guidance to entry level engineers on their projects.
  • Participate in cross functional design reviews as an independent reviewer.
  • Establish and define best practices for fellow team members. Create development tools to increase team efficiency.
  • Work with component suppliers and manufacturers for proper component selection on existing projects and input into future product needs.
