About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, including data centers and the associated equipment. The team supports all AWS data centers and ensures customers have continuous access to innovation. This role involves working on challenging problems within a diverse team of engineers and specialists, collaborating across AWS to maintain high standards of safety and security while providing capacity at the lowest cost. Amazon Web Services is seeking Senior Electrical Controls Engineers to join a global engineering team. This role is responsible for the implementation and technical evaluation of designs and the continuous innovation of the rapidly expanding data center footprint. Engineers at Amazon design resilient, cost-effective systems, are responsible for world-class uptime, and justify technical decisions to senior management. They drive continuous advancements and improvements in designs, and define and design the systems customers rely on. Hands-on controls design and field experience, along with an understanding of critical data center controls needs, are essential. The team is structuring to own more engineering in-house. Teamwork is crucial at Amazon. Controls engineers will collaborate with internal and external groups, including utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors. As an engineer in this role, you will work with Principals and Senior Electrical and Controls Engineers to standardize designs across global production data centers and resolve technical issues in the controls space. You will participate in research and development of new technologies and designs. You will be a subject matter expert, writing technical documentation and conceiving, initiating, and leading projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation, and implementation. This involves breaking down complex problems into actionable solutions, understanding user requirements, and collaborating with diverse teams. You will escalate issues as needed and communicate effectively with individuals from various technical backgrounds and cultures. Responsibilities also include reviewing and approving critical equipment submittals, vendor Witness Tests, and providing technical support for global Large Scale Events (LSEs), including deep dives, investigations, and mitigation plan recommendations. You will maintain and host technical EPMS forums for collaborative development of data center electrical systems and provide support and mentorship to the Data Center Engineering community, while also offering creative solutions.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities
  • Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, REVIT, BIM 360, etc.)
  • 6+ years of design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods
  • Knowledge of electrical and controls systems for critical infrastructures

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineering or Architectural License
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents

Responsibilities

  • Produce clear and concise documentation such as detailed design specifications, white papers, wiring schematics and diagrams, and reports.
  • Understand and safeguard implementation of the Global Electrical Controls Basis of Design (BoD) with constant auditing.
  • Drive standardization in the data center electrical-controls space.
  • Development of strategic solutions, which meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements.
  • Capture requirements and turn aspirational company or customer goals into well-defined, achievable and testable specifications and solutions.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during innovation and research and development projects.
  • Provide technical support on global Large Scale Events (LSE’s), including participation on deep dives, investigations and recommendations on mitigation plans.
  • Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
  • Maintain and host technical EPMS forums to provide a collaborative environment for development of data center controls systems.
  • Provide support and mentorship for the whole of the Data Center Engineering community.
