About The Position

The Sr. Director, Hepatology/Immunology Strategic Engagement & Portfolio/Pipeline Strategy leads the integrated U.S. commercial strategy for the Hepatology/Immunology portfolio and pipeline within Marketing. This role serves as the primary commercial voice for Hepatology/Immunology across the asset continuum from early development through lifecycle management. The role owns the strategic framework for external expert engagement, speaker programs, and congresses, and ensures commercially grounded insight generation and input into development decisions in close partnership with cross-functional teams. This role leads a multi-layered organization, including Director, Hepatology/Immunology Strategic Engagement and Director, Hepatology/Immunology Portfolio and Pipeline Strategy. The Sr. Director ensures that U.S. customer insights (HCP, payer, patient) are systematically generated and embedded into pipeline development, portfolio decisions, and brand strategy. Strategic engagement capabilities (TLLs, congress, P2P, external experts) are fully aligned to and accelerate portfolio and pipeline priorities. The organization operates as a single, insight-driven, customer-centric engine from Phase 2 through lifecycle management and launch. This role serves as the single point of accountability for U.S. strategic integration across development and commercialization for Hepatology/Immunology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Business, Life Sciences, or related field).
  • Significant experience (7+ years) in pharmaceutical/biotech leadership roles across:
  • Pipeline or new product strategy and/or equivalent Portfolio Marketing Experience
  • Field leadership and/or leadership of customer-facing organizations or other leadership at scale
  • Experience leading, developing or executing congresses, P2P, and/or marketing/operations
  • Leadership of complex, cross-functional organizations within specialty medicines
  • Experience influencing senior – VP and above level- stakeholders and enterprise decisions.
  • Hepatology/Immunology/GI- Specific Portfolio Experience or Similar Portfolio Experience in a Specialty Commercial Function – Marketing, Sales, Operations
  • Experience with accountability for full budget and resource management across a multi-functional team or program

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the integrated U.S. strategy across portfolio, pipeline, and strategic engagement for Hepatology/Immunology medicines.
  • Ensure tight linkage between early asset strategy and in-market execution, connecting development decisions with customer engagement and insights.
  • Serve as the voice of the U.S. commercial for Hepatology/Immunology across governance forums and enterprise decision-making bodies.
  • Drive alignment across Brand, Medical, Market Access, R&D, and Commercial leadership where appropriate and applicable.
  • Operates as the Marketing VP's primary strategic deputy for Hepatology/Immunology, holding functional decision-making authority over U.S. engagement investment priorities, external expert strategy, and the commercial input into pipeline decisions.
  • Accountable for ensuring recommendations reaching VP and above are fully developed, compliant with all US Policies and SOPs, cross-functionally aligned, and commercially defensible.
  • Oversee development of integrated U.S. portfolio strategies across in-line and pipeline Hepatology/Immunology assets (Phase 2 through launch), ensuring alignment with brand strategy, commercial objectives, and medical priorities.
  • Ensure delivery of robust U.S. market analyses, insights, and assumptions that inform stage-gate decisions, financial valuations, and investment prioritization.
  • Lead lifecycle strategy, including indication prioritization, sequencing, and lifecycle extension opportunities, informed by insights from in-line brands, customer experience, and external experts.
  • Embed payer, access, and value considerations early in development planning in partnership with Market Access, Health Outcomes, and Medical Affairs.
  • Set the Hepatology/Immunology strategy for HCP and external expert engagement, ensuring alignment with portfolio and pipeline priorities.
  • Ensure external expert insights are systematically captured, synthesized, and translated into action for brand, portfolio, and pipeline decisions.
  • Drive a consistent, high-impact, and compliant external engagement model aligned to strategic priorities.
  • Establish a closed-loop insight engine connecting TLL field insights, market research, analytics, and competitive intelligence.
  • Ensure insights are translated into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Champion a test-and-learn culture to continuously optimize engagement models, portfolio decisions, and go-to-market strategy.
  • Lead, manage, and develop a layered organization, including Directors (Hepatology/Immunology Strategic Engagement and Hepatology/Immunology Portfolio/Pipeline Strategy), Strategic Engagement Marketing Managers, and Thought Leader Liaisons (TLLs).
  • Provide clear direction, coaching, performance management, and talent development to build a high-performing, insight-driven, and customer-centric team culture.
  • Establish and maintain strong collaboration and clear ways of working across strategy, field insights, and execution teams.
  • Oversee end-to-end HCP engagement strategy, including congresses and P2P programs across Hepatology/Immunology.
  • Ensure strategic prioritization of engagements based on portfolio needs, pipeline milestones, and customer segmentation.
  • Align engagement investments to business impact and portfolio priorities, in close partnership with Brand Marketing, Sales, and Medical.
  • Serve as the U.S. commercial authority in enterprise governance forums and pipeline decision-making bodies, providing the definitive U.S. market perspective that informs stage-gate progression, investment prioritization, and asset sequencing decisions.
  • Accountable for ensuring U.S. commercial assumptions embedded in global development plans are defensible and aligned to market reality.
  • Ensure all activities across external engagement, pipeline strategy, and commercial execution are conducted in compliance with policies, SOPs, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proactively manage risk and governance across complex, multi-channel engagement models.
  • Holds direct accountability for the strategic engagement and portfolio strategy budget across Hepatology/Immunology, making prioritization decisions across congress, P2P, market research, and pipeline strategy programs within VP-delegated authority.
  • Provides the VP with clear investment recommendations and ROI visibility to inform TA-level resource decisions.
  • Optimize investment decisions based on performance data, customer insights, and strategic priorities.
  • Ensure robust project and program management discipline to manage multiple priorities and deliver consistently against timelines and quality expectations.
