Senior Director, Business Insights & Analytics – Medical Affairs Product Delivery The Business Insights and Analytics (BI&A) team is a global analytics function focused on driving improved patient and business outcomes through strategic, data-driven insights. Position Overview The Senior Director, Business Insights & Analytics – Medical Affairs Product will lead a transformational initiative to create fast, efficient intelligence through Agentic AI to accelerate medical solutions to healthcare providers and reach patients faster. This position is responsible for advancing the Medical Affairs product strategy to enable the core Business Unit integration teams with both data and analytical products that can scale, accelerate and advance the core priorities for the Medical Affairs function. This role sits at the intersection of modern AI innovation and Medical Affairs strategy, directly impacting our ability to close clinical care gaps and advance scientific data dissemination—especially for therapies addressing large unmet needs. You will pioneer Agentic AI adoption across US and International Business Units (IBU) by building tools through intelligent, AI-ready data foundations that enable faster, smarter Medical Affairs decisions. Success means delivering measurable business impact: improved patient outcomes, capacity savings through automation, influence on global strategic decisions, and collaborators who actively cite your team's insights as drivers of their success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of relevant analytical experience OR advanced degree with 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Quantitative background in engineering, statistics, mathematics, sciences, finance, computer science, business analytics, economics, technology, or related field

Nice To Haves

  • Strong analytical skills coupled with business discernment and ability to think strategically in ambiguous environments

  • Broad awareness and working knowledge of advanced analytics areas (AI, ML, NLP, Predictive Analytics)
  • Experience managing and scaling technical teams in enterprise environments, preferably with international or multi-business unit scope
  • Demonstrated success deploying production AI/ML systems that measurably accelerate business outcomes
  • Proven experience with semantic modeling, knowledge graphs, ontology development, or master data management in healthcare contexts
  • Strong understanding of Agentic AI architectures, large language model applications, and autonomous system design

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Vision Develop and implement comprehensive Medical Affairs Analytics Product strategy using a product-first approach aligned with BI&A and Agentic AI goals
  • Direct the Medical Affairs analytics product portfolio with end-to-end accountability for insights that accelerate delivery of medical solutions and close clinical care gaps
  • Champion Agentic AI transformation as a strategic differentiator, positioning Lilly as an industry leader in autonomous Medical Affairs analytics
  • Develop multi-year product roadmaps balancing AI innovation with regulatory compliance, scientific rigor, and business value
  • Participate in strategy development and future-state visioning across BI&A product teams
  • Partner with Medical Affairs leadership to identify high-impact opportunities where AI-driven insights influence critical decisions
  • Translate complex AI capabilities into compelling value propositions for global Medical Affairs participants
  • AI-Ready Data Foundation & Agentic AI Deployment Provide strategic leadership on Agentic AI work through close partnership across BI&A functions (Data Engineering, Data Science, Privacy, BU Integration teams, etc) to build a consistent, aligned AI data foundation
  • Build AI-ready data infrastructure ensuring data quality, lineage, policy as code, governance, and real-time accessibility across RWE, clinical trials, publications, HCP engagement, and medical operations data
  • Develop comprehensive semantic layers that translate complex medical data into unified business logic, enabling scalable self-service analytics globally. Ensure common and consistent rules and methodology across functions and teams to remove duplication and/or differences at the semantic layer
  • Partner with Data Science to architect and deploy AI agents that autonomously generate insights, answer medical queries, accelerate evidence synthesis, and enhance decision speed
  • Recommend and implement policy-as-code frameworks to automate governance, carry out regulatory compliance, and embed ethical AI principles
  • Drive Agentic AI integration into performance dashboards to improve ease of insight identification and reduce time from data to decision
  • Create fast, efficient intelligence pipelines delivering insights at the speed required for driven launch excellence
  • Product Delivery & Business Impact Ensure your team delivers scalable, AI-enabled products that solve business problems and are supported by solid evidence grounded in analytics
  • Improve scalable analytical tools and capabilities across global Medical Affairs solutions to enable strategic investment decisions and optimize resource allocation for maximum patient impact
  • Drive adoption and transformation of BI&A product approach to achieve marked capacity savings, redeploying analytics talent from routine reporting to high-value AI-enabled work
  • Ensure enablement through data and analytics products for enhanced, comprehensive customer identification—improving ability to identify, segment, and engage the right HCPs to ensure Medical Education is optimized to improve patient outcomes
  • Support scaling of innovation readiness data, analytics, and measurement for breakthrough therapies in high-priority therapeutic areas
  • Implement agile product delivery methodologies (Jira, SAFe)—establishing a consistent planning and prioritization framework that improves transparency, productivity, and focus on highest-value work you're doing
  • Develop and track success metrics demonstrating tangible business outcomes, decision influence, tool adoption, and collaborator impact
  • Collaborator Partnership & Change Leadership Cultivate trusted advisor relationships with Medical Affairs leadership globally, translating scientific questions into AI-powered analytics solutions with measurable impact
  • Ensure adoption through active tool usage where stakeholders quote the specific impact BI&A delivers—establishing clear lines from insights to decisions to outcomes
  • Communicate sophisticated AI concepts (autonomous agents, semantic modeling, policy-as-code) to medical, scientific, and executive audiences, building AI literacy and confidence
  • Champion change management strategies that drive behavioral adoption, not just tool deployment
  • Establish feedback loops with business partners to continuously refine products based on real-world usage
  • Be a champion for challenging the status quo and driving solutions that help Lilly reach its acceleration, reach, and scale goals
  • Team Leadership & Culture Develop a pipeline of analytics talent and contribute to an inclusive community through recruiting, training, coaching, and retaining
  • Create a culture of continuous learning and actively support team upskilling in emerging AI technologies (LLMs, agent frameworks, MLOps), medical domain knowledge, agile product management, and leadership
