About The Position

The Senior Director of Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) leads the execution, performance, and continuous improvement of core infrastructure and operational services that support enterprise and business priorities. Reporting to the CIO and serving as a senior member of the IT leadership team, this role translates IT strategy into scalable operating plans, reliable service delivery, and measurable business outcomes across infrastructure, operations, service management, and related technology platforms. This position provides strategic and people leadership for assigned functions, builds operational maturity, and partners across the business to advance service quality, resilience, compliance, and cost effectiveness while preparing the organization for future growth and progression to executive leadership.

Requirements

  • Advanced leadership capability with demonstrated success leading managers, technical teams, and complex operational functions while building engagement, accountability, and succession strength.
  • Strong business and technology acumen with the ability to translate enterprise direction into functional strategies, operating plans, service models, and measurable outcomes.
  • Deep knowledge of Infrastructure and Operations disciplines, including service management, cloud and on-premises infrastructure, platform operations, networks, storage, backup, monitoring, automation, resilience, and disaster recovery.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead operational maturity, modernization, and continuous improvement efforts with increasing scope, complexity, and enterprise visibility.
  • Strong financial and vendor management skills, including budget stewardship, resource prioritization, contract oversight, service performance management, and cost optimization.
  • Excellent communication, partnership, and influencing skills, including the ability to work effectively across business functions, technical teams, and senior leadership in a matrixed environment.
  • Strong strategic thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance operational demands, risk, user experience, and long-term capability needs.
  • Ability to operate with increasing enterprise perspective, anticipate downstream impacts, and contribute effectively to cross-functional and executive-level discussions.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory, risk, compliance, and internal control expectations affecting infrastructure and operations in business and GxP-supported environments.
  • Bachelor’s or master's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration, related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Fifteen or more years of progressive experience in IT, infrastructure, operations, or related business/industry environments
  • Ten years of leadership experience with increasing responsibility for strategy execution, operational performance, budgeting, and talent leadership

Responsibilities

  • Leads day-to-day and long-range direction for Infrastructure and Operations to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient delivery of core IT services aligned with business and enterprise priorities.
  • Translates enterprise IT strategy into functional roadmaps, operating plans, service priorities, and execution goals for infrastructure, operations, service management, and related platforms.
  • Directs the performance, stability, and continuous improvement of infrastructure and operational services, including service support, availability, disaster recovery readiness, asset management, and lifecycle planning.
  • Partners with IT and business leaders to prioritize work, align services to organizational needs, and ensure solutions are practical, scalable, and cost effective.
  • Owns functional budget performance, resource planning, vendor oversight, and service metrics for the assigned portfolio, with accountability for operational efficiency and value realization.
  • Establishes and strengthens operating discipline through defined processes, standards, governance, KPIs, dashboards, and service level expectations.
  • Collaborates with security, compliance, audit, and quality partners to ensure infrastructure and operational practices support risk management, internal controls, and regulated environment expectations.
  • Leads service improvement, modernization, and automation initiatives that improve user experience, reduce operational friction, and increase scalability and resilience.
  • Builds strong cross-functional relationships and influences decisions across a matrixed environment, escalating enterprise-level issues appropriately while independently resolving functional challenges.
  • Leads, develops, and coaches managers and technical leaders within the function, advancing workforce capability, succession readiness, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Contributes to broader IT leadership planning, enterprise priorities, and policy development by bringing forward recommendations, risks, tradeoffs, and opportunities from the Infrastructure and Operations function.
  • Demonstrates progression toward VP-level leadership by operating with enterprise perspective, developing broader organizational influence, and preparing to assume expanded strategic accountability.
