About The Position

The Sr. Director, Global Market Access Lead - Early Portfolio, Cell & Gene Therapy will play a pivotal role in designing and executing market access strategies for Bayer's early portfolio, with a strong focus on cell & gene therapies. Reporting to the Head of Early Access / Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT), this position is critical within the organization. The role's efforts will optimize price, reimbursement, and access speed through coordinated payer insights, evidence planning, and value communication. The individual will align market access strategies with brand vision, de-risk long-term business plans, and enhance brand value through comprehensive strategies that drive efficiencies in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and market access operations. The location for this role is Whippany, NJ or Cambridge, MA, but other locations, including Basel and Berlin, will be considered on a case by case basis.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, MSc, MBA) or equivalent experience in life sciences, health economics, public health, or business
  • Expertise in Market Access with a track record of successful submissions and negotiations
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in pricing strategy and innovative payment models
  • Experience in the US market and strong leadership skills in a matrix structure
  • Ability to create an ambitious vision based on deep insights into payer needs
  • Track record for re-imagining market access challenges and creating opportunities
  • Proactively identifies organizational barriers and builds diverse teams and networks

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 10–12 years’ experience in pharmaceutical/biotech market access with progressive leadership responsibility
  • Experience in rare/orphan disease and small patient populations
  • Familiarity with outcomes-based or annuity payment models for cell & gene therapies
  • Familiarity with major EU HTA bodies and US payer systems
  • Prior inpatient ICD and DRG experience in the U.S. or any maor global market highly desireable
  • Deep understanding of hospital access, infrastructure, procurement, contracting, coverage, and adoption highly desirable
  • Prior launch experience
  • Prior Neurology and / or CGT or CAR-T experience
  • Prior health policy and / or stakeholder advocacy experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of global market access strategies for early portfolio and cell & gene therapy programs
  • Builds comprehensive market access strategy and plan for an inpatient modality, supported by clear stakeholder mapping, and an understanding of key decision makers in coding, coverage, reimbursement and the overall value chain in cell therapy procurement and adoption
  • Define launch sequencing, access roadmaps, and prioritization by geography
  • Design and oversee payer-facing evidence generation, including value dossiers and economic models
  • Work and lead projects cross-functionally, including with partner organizations and vendors
  • Lead pricing strategy and innovative contracting design for therapies
  • Prepare reimbursement deliverables and ensure consistency between scientific evidence and economic modeling
  • Form and maintain stakeholder interractions both internally and externally
  • Lead cross-functional teams to ensure access considerations drive development decisions
  • Manage external vendors and consultants to deliver high-quality access deliverables
  • Provide leadership and mentorship for the access team
  • Track and report access outcomes and manage access-related budgets
  • Represent the company in external forums and HTA engagements
  • Act as Visionary, Architect, Catalyst, and Coach in shaping the GMACS outcome-setting process
