About The Position

The Senior Director, Construction leads the company’s construction, and capital project initiatives, ensuring facilities are built and delivered to meet strategic growth objectives and operational, safety and risk requirements. This role provides strategic direction, manages a high-performing team, and oversees multi-million-dollar projects from concept through completion while driving innovation, efficiency, and compliance. This position is virtual/remote which means the work can be completed from anywhere is the United States except Hawaii or United States Territories.

Requirements

  • 10 years of progressive leadership experience in design and construction.
  • 5 years of people management experience.
  • Proven experience managing complex, multi-site capital projects and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing multimillion-dollar budgets and project forecasts.
  • Experience with regulatory requirements for cold chain and food distribution facilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation, process improvements, and operational efficiency.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to travel to operating sites as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Supply Chain, Operations or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • Design and construction experience in cold storage or freezer food distribution environments.
  • Experience supporting rapid growth, network expansion, or transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Defines, owns and implements US Foods Supply Chain Design and Construction program strategy across all project types including Warehousing, Transpiration, Facility & Site Infrastructure, and Administrative Spaces.
  • Defines, owns and implements US Foods feasibility and due diligence strategy in support of new property acquisitions, M&A and Supply Chain network growth.
  • Delivers a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and operational growth.
  • Serves as a senior leader within the Facilities and Real Estate team fostering collaborative, constructive and productive relationship across the enterprise in support of achieving team and company strategic objectives.
  • Leads and mentors a team of Design and Construction leaders and project managers fostering professional development, accountability, and collaboration to meet performance objectives
  • Builds organizational capability in Facility Design and Delivery.
  • Directs the conceptualization, planning, and development of facility design for new builds, expansions, renovations, retrofits and admin and infrastructure projects.
  • Establishes and enforces US Foods facility design tenants, standards and technical specifications
  • Ensures that designs comply with all regulatory, sustainability, safety risk, cold chain and food distribution requirements.
  • Establishes and sustains US Foods design modeling (BIM) and document management strategy
  • Establishes and directs collaboration with key design partners including Engineering, Construction, Operations, Supply Chain Network Planning & Automation, Facilities, and Real Estate teams to deliver designs that meet functional and operational requirements.
  • Directs and leads all phases of construction: site due diligence, permitting, procurement, construction, commissioning, and turnover.
  • Defines, owns and implements General Contractor EPC firm strategies that align with project scope complexity and deliverable requirements.
  • Directs and oversees capital budgets, cost controls, value engineering, and financial forecasting.
  • Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including food safety and cold chain requirements.
  • Resolves escalated issues related to design changes, site conditions, or contractor performance.
  • Establishes project priorities, allocate resources effectively, and resolve escalated operational or project-related issues.
  • Manages relationships with architects, engineers, contractors, and vendors to ensure performance, cost control, and adherence to timelines.
  • Identifies and implements process improvements and innovative construction methods to drive efficiency and sustainability.
  • Directs and oversees procurement and negotiation of A/E contracts, GC agreements, equipment packages, and service contracts.
  • Implements governance frameworks for vendor performance, safety, and compliance.
  • Manages project risk through proactive planning, scenario analysis, and contingency strategies.
