About The Position

Vertafore is seeking a senior DevOps software engineer and team lead to join an agile DevOps team. The role leads the development of continuous-delivery infrastructure and processes across Vertafore products, including hands-on architecture and design of frameworks for automated application deployment, operational and security monitoring, and care of infrastructure and software platforms.

The engineer and team act as a liaison among agile development teams, SaaS operations, and external cloud providers, supporting deployment, operational efficiency, security, and business continuity. DevOps teams are integrated with the broader software engineering organization and both operate and improve systems and networks while providing development teams with tools and capabilities to bring products to market efficiently. The work uses lean-agile software development methodologies. The role requires comfort with on-call work.

Requirements

• 2–3 years of experience creating and maintaining infrastructure as code with Terraform.
• 5–7 years of overall cloud experience in mission-critical operations and/or DevOps engineering.
• Strong understanding of Linux operating systems, including troubleshooting and administration.
• Experience developing distributed systems using Ansible, Docker, Puppet, Chef, or Jenkins.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and microservices.
• Experience performing support and administrative tasks in AWS, Azure, OpenStack, or other cloud infrastructure technologies.
• Experience managing systems across multiple sites, including failover redundancy and autoscaling, and knowledge of practices for always-available services.
• Experience deploying, maintaining, and managing secure systems.
• Background in software development, preferably web applications.
• Ability to solve problems across the application stack.
• Commitment to quality and delivering high-quality code and infrastructure.
• Comfort with being on call.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with developers, business analysts, testing specialists, and product owners.

• Familiarity with build and deployment tools such as GitLab.
• Proficiency with monitoring and logging tools such as the ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana).
• Experience responding to production outages, resolving them, identifying root causes, and providing long-term solutions or early-detection strategies.
• Experience in regulated environments.
• Knowledge of industry trends and the open-source community, and ability to advocate for tools that improve operational performance or reduce operating costs.
• Ability to interface with and tune NoSQL databases.
• Knowledge of IP networking, VPNs, DNS, load balancing, and firewalling.
• Experience working in an Agile environment.
• Experience with ServiceNow, JIRA, and Rally.
• A degree in Computer Science or Information Systems, or extensive experience in lieu of a degree.
