About The Position

The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra – You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a Senior Designer working to deliver products in our Parts & Accessories (P&A) organization. This Senior Designer-P&A position is responsible for the CAD design and delivery of motorcycle components from concept through production release. The position serves as a CAD designer supporting a wide variety of motorcycle parts and accessories. This role focuses on detailed CAD modeling, large assembly management, drawing creation, and release, while collaborating closely with engineers and cross-functional partners to meet quality, cost, timing, and manufacturability objectives.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant CAD design experience.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in CAD tools and PLM systems, including experience working with large assemblies and production drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver designs meeting quality, cost, and timing objectives.
  • Understanding of engineering drawing standards and application of GD&T.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA) principles.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes such as injection molding, casting, forming, forging, painting, and chrome plating.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with suppliers and supporting production launch activities, including PPAP.
  • Training and/or professional experience with Creo Parametric CAD software.
  • Background in motorcycle, automotive, or vehicle product development environments.
  • Motorcycle riding experience or strong interest is appreciated.
  • Knowledge of product development and delivery in a highly discretionary, consumer-centric industry.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, integrates, and delivers motorcycle components from initial concept development through production release.
  • Creates and maintains CAD models, virtual assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings using Creo Parametric.
  • Collaborates with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to support design, development, and production of motorcycle components and systems.
  • Delivers optimal design solutions while adhering to project timing, performance objectives, quality standards, and cost targets.
  • Creates and processes engineering change notices using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • Develops written and graphical documentation supporting engineering drawings, tolerance analyses, assembly documentation, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Applies established design standards, drafting practices, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
  • Considers manufacturing, assembly, service, and material constraints in all design activities.
  • Facilitates the transfer of CAD data between internal and external stakeholders and acts as a point of contact for updating internal CAD assemblies.
  • Support other designers on team, provides technical guidance, ensures consistent standards are applied.
  • Support effective cross-functional communication to ensure alignment between Engineering, Product, Service, Manufacturing, Sales, and other key stakeholders throughout the product life cycle.
