Sr. Designer - Land Development

About The Position

As a Sr. Designer at LJA Land Development, you will plan and complete civil site and land development projects with little or no supervision from the Project Manager. This role supports project delivery through design, scheduling, budgeting, permitting coordination, cost estimating, and mentoring junior production staff. The Sr. Designer will work on subdivisions and site projects throughout the greater Las Vegas area while collaborating with reviewing agencies, project teams, and outside partners.

Requirements

  • Minimum of high school or technical school training with courses in computer-aided drafting.
  • Equivalent experience may be considered in place of formal drafting coursework.
  • 10+ years of progressive drafting and design experience.
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D experience.
  • Experience planning and completing civil site and land development projects with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to prepare cost estimates, bid quantities, construction phasing plans, and project documentation.
  • General understanding of FEMA submittments for projects.
  • Ability to collaborate with reviewing agencies to address comments and receive permits.
  • Experience with subdivisions, site projects, master planning, utilities, detention, dirt balancing, feasibility exercises, mitigation, and detention requirements.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with coworkers and public agency officials.
  • Extensive contact with outside agencies and project team members.
  • Ability to build strong relationships.
  • Must be flexible with changes in work assignments on short notice and/or on a daily basis as project needs change.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience delegating work to junior designers, EITs, and drafters.
  • Experience training junior designers, drafters, and E.I.T.’s in design.
  • Experience implementing CAD standards, including templates, blocks, details, Civil 3D style creation, and standards manuals.
  • Experience assisting with production staff policies and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of civil site and land development design in the Las Vegas valley.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with establishing production budgets based on the work required.
  • Applying manpower needs to meet project deadlines and budgets.
  • Determining and scheduling project deadlines.
  • Preparing construction phasing plans for project completion.
  • Preparing Engineer’s cost estimates and bid quantities.
  • Assisting with change order and revision documentation on plan sets.
  • Designing subdivisions and site projects located throughout the Las Vegas Valley.
  • Assisting in master planning for various areas, including utilities, detention, and dirt balancing.
  • Performing feasibility exercises, including research, exhibits, cost estimates, and establishing mitigation and detention requirements.
  • Collaborating with reviewing agencies to address comments and receive permits.
  • Delegating work to junior designers, EITs, and drafters.
  • Training junior designers, drafters, and E.I.T.’s in all aspects of design.
  • Assisting with implementing production policies, procedures, and CAD standards, including templates, blocks, details, Civil 3D style creation, and standards manuals.
  • Supporting other assigned duties as required.
