About The Position

Caterpillar’s BCP division is hiring for Sr. Design Engineer in Clayton, NC! As a Senior Design Engineer on the BCP Operator Station Systems team, you will be responsible for the development, integration, and validation of operator station system and subsystems components. You will apply deep engineering knowledge and execute customer, regulatory, and system requirements into robust, intuitive, cost-effective, and production-ready solutions that help solve our customers toughest challenges. This role provides end-to-end technical ownership of cab system and cab-component integration for New Product Introduction (NPI) programs and Current Product Improvement (CPI) initiatives from concept selection through design release, validation, launch, and product support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related fields.
  • Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.
  • Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in Creo and utilizing Teamcenter Engineering to release designs.
  • Good mechanical aptitude with ability to develop product concepts.
  • Have good understanding and experience of stampings, fabrication, and non-metallics components design and effective manufacturing practices.

  • Proven ability to network and establish collaborative relationships within the workgroup, internal process partners, supply chain, and internal customers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across global engineering, product groups, manufacturing, quality, procurement, suppliers, and other process partners.
  • New product design and development, including project planning, part design, systems integration, validation, and production implementation.
  • Translate customer needs, regulatory requirements, and system-level requirements into measurable technical specifications and execute engineering deliverables.
  • Requirements Management, Boundary Diagram, Design Failure Mode, and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design Verification Plans & Report (DVP&R), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), and Process Control Plan.
  • Collaborate with the global team and internal/ external process partners on technical, commercial, and program issues.
  • Develop and execute validated resolution of NPI and CPI issues.
  • Lead structured root-cause investigations for NPI and CPI issues, validate failure mechanisms, define containment and corrective actions, and verify solution effectiveness using data-driven problem-solving methods.
  • Understanding customer requirements and managing multiple priorities and executing deliverables to meet program timeline.
  • Perform complex analysis work to identify design/ process risk and develop mitigation plans.
  • Optimize designs for performance, ergonomics, preferred UX/UI, manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, quality, reliability, and cost while documenting engineering trade-offs and risks mitigation.
  • Engage with the Product Gp and cross functional systems team to develop optimum and cost-effective design solutions while meeting quality, cost, and reliability goals.
