About The Position

The Department of Surgery is currently seeking a full time Sr. Dental Assistant to work in Miami. The Supervisor, Dental Assistant oversees and supports the day-to-day operations of dental care delivery. Supervisor is responsible for preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments, and materials. Moreover, this employee assists dentists during procedures, and performs minor procedures as permitted by the Dental Practice Act. This position supervises six (6) dental assistant(s) supporting Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry personnel. This position is responsible for developing a strong team to provide an exceptional patient experience.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in relevant field

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that all patients, customers, visitors, and staff are well served by providing a pleasant and organized atmosphere that is appropriate for all age groups, ethnic groups and physical handicaps.
  • Supervise, orient, train, evaluate and monitor on-the-job performance of dental assistants.
  • Assists Practice Managers and Administrators with planning, organizing, and scheduling staff for the daily expected volumes.
  • Ensures all staff members adhere to all established policies and procedures related to dental practices.
  • Make suggestions on process improvement, creates policies and procedures that will improve overall performance.
  • Provides needed coverage to other clinics, as volumes dictate employing team collaboration and spirit.
  • Motivates employees through the use of positive reinforcement and recognition.
  • Responsible for completion of employee time records in Workday.
  • Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area.
  • Provides materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the patient's mouth.
  • Provides diagnostic information by exposing and developing radiographic studies.
  • Pours, trims, and polishes study casts, and cleans and polishes removable appliances.
  • Maintains patient appearance and ability to masticate by fabricating temporary restorations.
  • Maintains emergency drug and oxygen supply, and emergency telephone directory.
  • Educates patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative instructions.
  • Documents dental care services by charting in patients’ records.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control protocols.
  • Ensures proper operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, troubleshooting malfunctions, and coordinating repairs.
  • Maintains dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders, and verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Supervises, orients, trains, evaluates and monitors on-the-job performance of dental assistant staff, using positive reinforcement and recognition; ensures staff members adhere to all established policies and procedures related to dental practice act.
  • Assists with planning, organizing, and scheduling to staffing to accommodate daily expected volumes; monitors patient flow and communicates any issues to management, including wait times, patient feedback in the clinical areas throughout the day; provides needed coverage to other clinics, as volumes dictate.
  • Responsible for completing employee time records in the System; assists in monitoring staff productivity and work quality by conducting data reviews and audits (e.g. attendance, data entry, voucher organization, scheduling accuracy); in consultation with management, initiates the performance management process to address on-going performance issues as necessary.
  • Responsible for completing yearly and special performance appraisals for dental assistants.
  • May recommends merit increases, promotions, disciplinary actions etc., to practice managers and Division Chief.
  • Responsible for the on-going training and communication of changes in policies and procedures through feedback to staff via regular meetings.
  • Ensures that adequate staffing is maintained on a 24 hour basis.
  • Selects and trains new employees in accordance with Human Resources policies and organization philosophy.
  • Attends mandatory and regular administrative and departmental meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
