The Sr. Database Administrator keeps the databases behind Velocitor’s fleet management and telematics applications fast, available, and recoverable. Reduces production incidents and improves application performance through deep Microsoft SQL Server expertise, disciplined high availability practice, and hands-on performance engineering. Velocitor’s databases absorb continuous, high-volume device telemetry, serve multi-tenant transactional workloads, and are held to uptime expectations set by customers whose drivers and vehicles are moving right now. The Sr. Database Administrator owns the health, performance, and durability of a multi-terabyte hybrid estate spanning on-premises SQL Server and Azure SQL (Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database, and SQL on VMs). This role requires an understanding of Microsoft SQL Server at the engine level, not the console level. The successful candidate can read a wait statistics profile and explain what the server is actually complaining about, examine an execution plan and explain why the optimizer chose badly, and distinguish an index problem from a statistics problem from a schema problem before changing anything. This is a hands-on position. The Sr. DBA works in the query window daily: writing T-SQL and PowerShell, reading execution plans, running failover drills, executing migration cutovers, and joining the incident bridge as the person driving diagnosis. Mentorship is part of the job; oversight is not.
