As a Sr. Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the design, administration, performance, reliability, and operational support of enterprise SQL Server database platforms supporting critical business applications. This role requires strong expertise in SQL Server across on-premises and AWS environments, with a focus on performance tuning, high availability, automation, operational stability, and production support. You will work closely with application teams, SRE, Cloud Operations, and other stakeholders to understand database requirements, troubleshoot complex issues, recommend solutions, and continuously improve database reliability and operational efficiency. You will participate throughout the technology lifecycle, from project planning and implementation through production readiness and ongoing operational support.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with SQL Server administration in on-premises and AWS environments, including SQL Server on EC2 and Amazon RDS.
  • Advanced T-SQL scripting, troubleshooting, and database administration skills.
  • Strong experience with SQL Server performance tuning and query optimization, including execution plan analysis, wait statistics, indexing, statistics, and workload analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Transactional Replication, and Log Shipping.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and supporting High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.
  • Strong experience with PowerShell scripting for database administration and automation.
  • Understand application and business requirements and recommend database solutions that meet performance, scalability, availability, security, and supportability requirements.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, migration issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc.
  • Experience in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tool
  • Enhance automated functions including monitoring, backing up, recovering, increasing availability, user management, access to controls and logging audits.
  • MS SQL Server, SSRS experience required.
  • Strong T-SQL scripting abilities and understanding of complex stored procedures, views, data aggregation/manipulation through table joins/queries, database design, normalization and de-normalization techniques.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or similar field or related work experience.
  • 6 or more years of expert knowledge and experience in SQL Server administration, performance optimization, T-SQL development
  • 3+ years of AWS cloud experience preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with tools and platforms such as GitLab and ServiceNow.
  • Experience supporting multi-tenant database environments is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing requirements, and quickly learn new database and cloud technologies.
  • RDS/Aurora Postgres, RedShift or Oracle administration experience desirable
  • Familiarity with standard tools and platforms such as Terraform, GitLab, Kubernetes and ServiceNow.
  • Nice to have experience with multi-tenant systems
  • Demonstrated desire and ability to learn technologies quickly
  • Possesses good oral and written communication skills.
  • Effectively multi-tasks and adapts to change.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Automation experience using languages like PowerShell and Python and automation tools like Terraform or Ansible

Responsibilities

  • Design, administration, performance, reliability, and operational support of enterprise SQL Server database platforms supporting critical business applications.
  • Focus on performance tuning, high availability, automation, operational stability, and production support.
  • Work closely with application teams, SRE, Cloud Operations, and other stakeholders to understand database requirements, troubleshoot complex issues, recommend solutions, and continuously improve database reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Participate throughout the technology lifecycle, from project planning and implementation through production readiness and ongoing operational support.
  • Proactively identify and remediate regressed queries, long-running and resource-intensive queries, inefficient execution plans, CPU/IO bottlenecks, blocking, deadlocks, and other performance issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues involving database integrity, performance, availability, migrations, replication, connectivity, security, backup/recovery, and database operations.
  • Perform SQL Server installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, migrations, maintenance, and performance optimization.
  • Develop and enhance database automation for provisioning, monitoring, backup/recovery, maintenance, access management, and other repetitive operational activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and recommendations on database standards, performance, architecture, and best operational practices.
  • Work effectively as an individual contributor while collaborating with application teams, SRE, Cloud Operations, vendors, consultants, and other technology teams.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation supporting 24x7 database services.
