Location : This position is onsite minimally 3 days a week at One Energy Plaza located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify). The Senior Data Scientist is responsible for analyzing large, complex datasets and leading support for data output processes. This role develops and maintains data models, tools, and analytical frameworks to meet evolving business needs. The incumbent will collaborate closely with business partners to define requirements, prioritize data requests, and deliver insights that support strategic decision making. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of organizational business needs and can translate complex data challenges into actionable insights using advanced analytical methods.

Requirements

  • Ability to compile, clean, organize, interpret, and concisely communicate data and analytical results.
  • Strong logic and reasoning skills to evaluate alternative solutions, conclusions, and approaches to complex problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Deep knowledge of data modeling, machine learning algorithms, statistical analysis, data visualization, and data engineering.
  • Proficiency in process management methodologies.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to translate business needs into analytical requirements.
  • Advanced quantitative analytics skills and structured problem solving capabilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Data Analytics, or a related field, with four (4) or more years of experience in data science, data analysis, data modeling, and business needs assessment [OR] Associate’s degree in Data Science, Information Technology, Data Analysis, or a related field, with six (6) or more years of relevant experience [OR] High School Diploma with eight (8) or more years of experience in data science, data analysis, data modeling, and business needs assessment

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding of dimensional modeling concepts (fact tables, dimensions, star schemas) and their use in analytical modeling.
  • Advanced expertise in machine learning, statistical modeling, and applied analytics.
  • Extensive experience developing, optimizing, and scaling models in Databricks and Spark based environments.
  • Proficiency in Python for production quality data science and reusable modeling components.
  • Experience designing features from complex, enterprise scale datasets.
  • Familiarity with MLOps principles, including model lifecycle management, monitoring, versioning, and reproducibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead end to end data science initiatives from ideation through adoption.
  • Proven experience mentoring junior data scientists and contributing to analytical best practices.
  • Strong collaborative skills, with experience partnering across engineering, analytics, and business functions.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate data science outputs clearly and support the development of models and analytical solutions that provide actionable insights for business execution.
  • Lead and execute complex analytics initiatives from ideation through production and organizational adoption, with full understanding of the analytics lifecycle and its common challenges.
  • Prioritize business initiatives and structure projects for optimal success, considering budget, staffing, and regulatory requirements.
  • Plan, organize, and manage data resources and processes to achieve project or program objectives within defined scope, time, quality, and budget constraints, including extracting data from primary datasets and business tools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or deemed necessary.
