Sr Data Scientist
About The Position
PayPal, Inc. seeks Sr Data Scientist in Chicago, IL. This role involves collaborating across teams to define and measure key success metrics, uncover insights for strategic decisions, and translate business challenges into data-driven problems. The Data Scientist will design solutions including metrics, analytics, experimentation, and business intelligence. They will conduct statistical analysis for programs and A/B testing to identify actionable insights. A key part of the role is building and enhancing models and analytical frameworks to support risk initiatives, working with cross-functional partners like finance and product. The position requires influencing partners and driving change through clear analysis and recommendations, and effectively communicating insights to senior leadership for executive decision-making. The role also champions data quality, accessibility, and democratization across the organization. Partial telecommuting is permitted from within a commutable distance.
Requirements
- Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Data Science, Business Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a closely related field plus three years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
- Experience in fraud detection and risk analytics within large financial services or technology sector (3 year/s)
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including compliance, legal, and technology stakeholders (3 year/s)
- Experience implementing and refining fraud defense strategies (3 years)
- Experience in developing decisioning frameworks, conducting statistical analysis, and delivering measurable business impact through data-driven solutions. (3 year/s)
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, and data visualization tools (Tableau or similar) (3 year/s)
- Experience in production process automation. (3 year/s)
- Experience in database design and development (3 year/s)
Responsibilities
- Collaborate across teams to define and measure key success metrics and uncover insights that inform strategic decisions.
- Translate business challenges into data-driven problems and design appropriate data science solutions, including metrics and analytics, experimentation, and business intelligence.
- Conduct sound statistical analysis for programs and A/B testing experiment to recognize the patterns that lead to actional insights.
- Build and continuously enhance models and analytical framework to support risk initiatives and its wider implication with cross functional partners, e.g. finance, product etc.
- Influence partners and drive impactful change through the structure and clarity of analysis and recommendations.
- Effectively communicate insights to risk senior leadership to enable executive level decision making and follow-ups.
- Champion data quality, accessibility, and democratization of data across the organization.
