About The Position

PayPal, Inc. seeks Sr Data Scientist in Chicago, IL. This role involves leading the development and implementation of advanced data science models. The successful candidate will extract, analyze, and transform data to generate tactical and strategic insights that address business problems and support the profitable growth of PayPal’s Small and Medium-sized Business (SMB) portfolio, utilizing experience with regulatory frameworks related to SMB acquisitions. Key responsibilities include identifying business levers, establishing cause-and-effect relationships, and effectively communicating insights to stakeholders to drive data-informed decisions. The role also requires continuous extraction and analysis of credit exposure data, conducting sensitivity and A/B testing to optimize risk strategies, and designing visually engaging data outputs in a clear and digestible format for business leads. Partial telecommuting is permitted from within a commutable distance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Information Science, Data Science, or a closely related field such as Electrical Engineering.
  • 7 years of progressively responsible experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Experience writing SQL in a professional environment. (7 years)
  • Hands-on experience with data analysis and exploration, descriptive statistics and predictive modelling. (7 years)
  • Experience using Python with proficiency in libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, or similar. (3 years)
  • Experience working with cloud systems, AWS or Google BigQuery. (1 year)
  • Experience in data visualizations and reporting similar to Tableau. (1 year)
  • Experience in end-to-end machine learning model development process leveraging expertise in data science and ML such as XGBoost, Random forest or regression model (2 years)
  • Experience in business rule analysis, tuning and recommending changes for various business channels and implementation of various business intelligence, strategies and rules through decision engine. (2 years)
  • Experience in fraud and credit risk, with a strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and mitigation strategies. (2 years)
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
