The Actuarial Information Services Department’s Global Specialty team is looking for a skilled Sr. Data Engineer to join us. Our ideal candidate will leverage deep technical expertise and strong communication skills to deliver both invest and maintenance projects within the Global Specialty portfolio. Our team delivers Global Specialty data to internal business partners. We support Enterprise Wide and Actuarial initiatives by providing expertise in Global Specialty data knowledge. This role is essential for ensuring high quality and timely data reporting to internal business partners. To excel in this role, you will need technical leadership, exceptional communication skills, experience in data analysis and strong technical abilities to gather required data from various data sources for requirements gathering. You will engage with a diverse array of business partners, including actuarial teams, finance departments and IT partners across the enterprise. This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office location (Hartford, CT) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and 5 or more years’ experience in IT systems analysis and application program development, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

5+ years ETL / Data Integration / Big Data / Cloud (AWS) Technologies experience
3+ years of Python
3+ years of Linux
2+ years in Snowflake data warehousing, data pipelines and automation.
3 + years in Cloud Data modernization (Ingestion, Curation, Data Domains, Data Products).
Experience with version control tools, CI/CD pipeline and DevOps tools like GitHub, Jenkins Nexus and uDeploy.
Experience with Artificial Intelligence, AI certifications preferred
Strong data warehouse applications knowledge in financial/insurance domain preferred
Strong Global Specialty Insurance knowledge preferred
Knowledge of data modeling
Experience with Big Data Distributed Processing (HDFS, Hive, Spark, PySpark), AWS, Data Analytical languages Python, R preferred
Strong critical thinking skills and analytical ability.
Proficient in industry standard querying tools.
Proven ability to organize and manage multiple priorities in a timeline driven environment.
Knowledge or familiarity with dimensional database structure.
Excellent facilitation, requirements elicitation and data analysis skills.
Experience with mentoring and leading other Data Engineers.

Nice To Haves

AWS / Big Data Technologies certification preferred
Experience with Artificial Intelligence, AI certifications preferred

Works closely with client management to identify and specify the complex business requirements and processes for diverse development platforms, computing environments (e.g., Cloud, host based, distributed systems, client server), software, hardware, technologies and tools
Provides highly technical consulting and leadership in identifying and implementing new uses of information technologies that assist the functional business units in meeting their strategic objectives
Reviews the disaster recovery plan to ensure that new systems promote uninterrupted systems operation
Coordinate activities with cross-functional IT unit stakeholders (e.g., database, operations, telecommunications, technical support, etc.)
Researches and evaluates alternative solutions and recommends the most efficient and cost effective solution for the systems design
Formulates logical statements of business problems and devises, tests and implements efficient, cost effective application program solutions (e.g., codes and/or reuses existing code through the use of program development software alternatives and/or integrates purchased solutions)
Prepares charts, tables and diagrams to assist in analyzing problems, utilizing various business, scientific, engineering and mathematical techniques.
Analyzes existing system and programming logic to provide more efficient machine operations or to identify difficulties, and revises the logic and procedures involved as necessary
Primary technical point of contact for interaction with other cross-functional units and teams.
