About The Position

HyerTek is a growing federal technology consulting firm delivering secure Microsoft-based enterprise solutions, data analytics, and modernization services to government agencies. With deep expertise across Microsoft Dynamics, Power Platform, Power BI, and secure federal IT delivery, we help agencies modernize mission-critical systems and improve operational performance. We are seeking a Sr. Data & Analytics Engineer for a hands-on, full-stack data role. You will architect and build Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Fabric solutions from the ground up — semantic models, lakehouses, pipelines, dataflows, and reports — and lead data migrations from legacy systems (SQL Server, Oracle, mainframe extracts, SharePoint lists, Access, Excel) into Microsoft Dataverse. You will work directly with client stakeholders, mission owners, and HyerTek delivery teams to translate operational requirements into durable, governed data products. Candidates must be based in the Washington, DC metro area.

Requirements

Minimum 6 years of professional experience in data engineering, BI development, or data architecture roles.
Minimum 4 years of hands-on Power BI development, including advanced DAX, M / Power Query, and tabular model design.
Minimum 2 years working with Microsoft Dataverse — building tables, relationships, business rules, and security models in production environments.
Demonstrated experience leading at least three full-lifecycle data migrations from a legacy system into a modern Microsoft data platform.
Working experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, OneLake, Data Pipelines, Direct Lake) — or strong Synapse / Azure Data Factory experience with demonstrated ability to ramp on Fabric quickly.
Advanced SQL across at least one major RDBMS (SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL).
Strong proficiency in DAX and Power Query M.
Working knowledge of Python or PySpark for notebook-based data transformation in Fabric or Synapse.
Solid grasp of dimensional modeling (Kimball), data vault concepts, and modern lakehouse patterns (medallion architecture).
Familiarity with Power Platform ALM tools — Power Platform Pipelines, Solution management, and source control via Azure DevOps or GitHub.
Understanding of REST APIs, OData, and common federal data formats (XML, JSON, fixed-width, EDI).
U.S. Citizenship
Active Secret clearance required

Responsibilities

Design and build end-to-end Power BI solutions, including semantic models, DAX measures, row-level security, and report and dashboard layers aligned to mission user needs.
Architect Microsoft Fabric implementations spanning Lakehouses, Warehouses, Data Pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, Notebooks, and Direct Lake semantic models.
Establish workspace governance, deployment pipelines, and refresh strategies across Dev, Test, and Production environments.
Optimize performance through partitioning, incremental refresh, aggregations, and Direct Lake / DirectQuery design choices.
Lead end-to-end data migrations from legacy systems — SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, SharePoint Lists, Access, Excel, flat files, and custom line-of-business databases — into Microsoft Dataverse.
Design Dataverse data models, including tables, columns, relationships, choice sets, business rules, and security roles to support model-driven and canvas applications.
Build and operate ETL/ELT processes using Dataflows, Power Query, Azure Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines, or Fabric Data Pipelines.
Develop data validation, reconciliation, and cutover strategies to ensure migration integrity and auditability for federal clients.
Implement data quality, master data management, and reference data patterns inside Dataverse.
Produce solution architecture diagrams, data dictionaries, entity-relationship diagrams, and migration runbooks suitable for federal client review and contract deliverables.
Apply data classification, sensitivity labeling, and DLP policies consistent with DoD IL2/IL4/IL5 environments where applicable.
Serve as the lead data engineer on client engagements; participate in Architecture Design Sessions, requirements workshops, and technical demos.
Collaborate with Power Platform developers, solution architects, and project managers to ensure data layer aligns with application and reporting needs.
