About The Position

We are looking for a Sr. Controls Systems Engineer to join our NAF team in Freeport, TX. At BASF, we create chemistry for a sustainable future. As a Senior Control Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the reliability, maintenance, and continuous improvement of process control systems supporting the Utilities Blocks. This role provides technical leadership for DCS, PLC, HMI, and associated instrumentation systems supporting Utilities systems. The position works closely with Operations, I&E Technicians, Engineering, and Maintenance to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation of utility assets.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer, Chemical, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or have equivalent demonstrated experience in industrial control systems.
  • Bring 7+ years of experience in control systems, automation, and instrumentation, including hands-on experience with Honeywell DCS, with Triconex and Allen-Bradley PLC experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams.
  • Have strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic operating environment.
  • Are willing and able to respond to critical after-hours events that may impact EHS, reliability, or production.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Triconex and Allen-Bradley PLC experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and supporting DCS, PLC, and HMI platforms across Utilities systems (steam, water, air, power, and distribution) to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Providing technical leadership and troubleshooting support for control systems, partnering closely with Operations and I&E Technicians to resolve issues and improve system performance.
  • Leading and supporting automation projects and system modifications, including design reviews, configuration changes, FAT/SAT participation, and startup support.
  • Managing control system lifecycle activities, including backups, documentation, obsolescence planning, and compliance with site standards and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Supporting process safety and reliability programs, including Management of Change (MOC), PSSR, alarm management, incident investigations, and control strategy improvements.
  • Driving continuous improvement efforts through loop tuning, alarm reduction, system optimization, and implementation of best practices for industrial control systems.
