About The Position

This position is for a Senior Controls Specialist responsible for electrical safety and training. The role involves being a highly skilled, hands-on troubleshooter focused on maintaining plant uptime and increasing efficiency. The specialist will also act as a technical indirect leader and mentor for other instrumentation and electrical personnel. The primary work location is onsite at the Ione facility, with occasional remote support or on-site support for the smaller Panamint Valley Limestone (PVL) site. The position requires availability for remote support during unscheduled hours when maintenance and electrical personnel are unable to resolve plant issues. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with technical curiosity and superior written and verbal communication skills.

Requirements

  • An Associate's degree coupled with 5+ years of demonstrated experience in an industrial continuous process atmosphere.
  • Demonstrated process control experience in defining, designing, installing and maintaining control logic systems and equipment.
  • Willingness to assume roles of team leader and team member when necessary.
  • Advanced demonstrated communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis, detailed design (including documentation), capital request preparation, installation, start-up/checkout/debugging, and cost control of assigned projects.
  • Provide technical expertise in support of capital projects, process evaluation, and equipment modification.
  • Participate in process improvement efforts in support of plant goals.
  • Monitor plant systems, analyze performance, and initiate action for optimization to achieve plant goals for safety, productivity, and cost effectiveness.
  • Install switches, and perform maintenance on the network as needed, requiring familiarity with industrial networking concepts.
  • Explicitly incorporate stringent electrical safety standards into daily work and system design.
  • Maintain and support the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) environment, including, but not limited to, PLC programming, Human-Machine Interface (HMI) configuration and programming, and logic maintenance.
  • Manage records regarding all system software changes and communicate any changes to affected employees.
  • Manage contractors and maintenance staff during project installations.
  • Create electrical training programs for electrical, instrument, and mechanical teams to stay abreast of federal, state and local regulations.
  • Partner with Plant Mgmt to develop the five-year capital planning and the annual electrical operating budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
