About The Position

The Sr Controls Engineer designs and develops PLC programs for material handling equipment. This position has comprehensive knowledge of equipment, business and customer requirements that drive the design of the technical solutions and participates in all phases of product development lifecycle, including the analysis, design, electrical designs, installation support, electrical installation debugging and support of other complimentary engineering staff associated with the electrical hardware engineering. The Sr Controls Engineer works independently to resolve site requirement changes, and support solutions to complete designed equipment installation. Must be able to travel over 65% of the time; travel is company paid, and you keep the airline miles, and hotel and rental car points. May work 10 days on/4 days off format.  Our Warehouse Automation group, Matthews Automation Solutions, delivers advanced software and control solutions that improve efficiency in the physical processing of orders for retail and ecommerce distribution centers. Matthew Automation Solutions’ portfolio - including brands Lightning Pick, Pyramid, and Compass Engineering – deliver solutions for high-performance order picking, assembly and sortation, as well as warehouse control and execution systems to maximize material flow and order fulfillment throughput.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years previous professional engineering experience
  • Regular travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally is required.
  • Experience programming PLCs to support Material Handling Equipment (i.e., conveyors, sorters, automated storage and retrieval systems, order picking technologies, and print/apply and weighing systems) operations for distribution centers.
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
  • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients.
  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.
  • Driver's License issued in the state of residency.
  • Ability to travel as part of duties.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Programs systems to support equipment operations.
  • Interfaces with internal engineering/project management and customers to determine system requirements.
  • Supports electrical installation via interfacing to electrical installers.
  • Debugs electrical installation of controls and motor components.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
