About The Position

AccountingDepartment.com is seeking a Remote Sr. Controller to join their growing team. This leadership position involves managing an assigned team while also being a strong individual contributor. The role provides outsourced controllership, advisory services, and strategic direction to various clients, helping entrepreneurs manage their financials and providing actionable solutions. Responsibilities include reviewing monthly financial reports for accuracy, implementing internal processes and controls, developing budgets and forecasts, analyzing data, creating KPIs, and making recommendations to clients to drive strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will be organized, comfortable managing up to 15 clients and leading a team of 6 to 10, capable of quick decision-making, and responsive to challenges and time pressures. The Senior Controller must be self-motivated, responsive, and deliver best-in-class strategic advisory and financial operations in a virtual environment, empowering their team to create an unparalleled client experience. This position is an integral part of the leadership team and will report to an Assistant Director.

Requirements

  • Outsourced accounting experience.
  • Transferable knowledge in accounting and financial analysis for businesses in the $5M to $25M market.
  • 10 years of supervisory experience.
  • Adaptive leadership style with a passion for mentoring staff.
  • Exceptional ability to work with all levels within the organization while fostering a culture of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Proven expertise in actively managing accounting functions for small to medium-sized enterprises.
  • Comfortable with change and easily pivots when priorities change.
  • Technical, analytical focus, handles complex issues and finds creative solutions, even in challenging situations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to express oneself confidently.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to multi-task daily, weekly and monthly priorities.
  • Strong experience with NetSuite and other accounting software packages.
  • Passion for learning new technologies.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment, with a sense of urgency to achieve timely, quality results.
  • Ability to make quick decisions based on knowledge and experience.
  • Effectively operates within established standards and guidelines.
  • Ability to acclimate to various client environments.
  • High degree of computer literacy, including extensive knowledge in Microsoft Office, and specifically Outlook and Excel.
  • Ability to travel when necessary.
  • Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and mentoring accounting team for assigned clients, providing coaching, timely feedback, and conducting reviews.
  • Developing an understanding of each client’s unique business and accounting needs, and providing strategic leadership into scalable accounting operations.
  • Managing the month-end closing process and issuing financial reports to all clients.
  • Partnering with client leadership on operational and strategic decisions to enhance performance.
  • Collaborating with clients to address accounting requests and questions, with appropriate action steps, scope, prioritization, and delegation.
  • Developing client’s annual budget and maintaining cash forecasting tools.
  • Monitoring budget performance and providing insights for adjustments.
  • Developing and reviewing financial and operating metrics through dashboards, including KPIs.
  • Identifying variances from the budget and reporting significant variances to clients.
  • Analyzing financial and operational data to provide real-time, meaningful recommendations and implementing actions.
  • Identifying trends, risks, and growth opportunities.
  • Providing actionable insights to senior leadership to drive strategic decision-making.
  • Executing client conference calls to review strategy, current and future needs, and operational changes affecting financial results.
  • Assisting in gathering pertinent tax-related information for external tax return preparation.
  • Coordinating the provision of information to external audits.
  • Complying with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements.
  • Reviewing and approving monthly and quarterly tax filings (use/sales tax, property tax returns, payroll tax returns).
  • Completing special projects as requested by clients.
