Sr Control Systems Engineer - Boiler Experience
About The Position
We are seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer with boiler experience to provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams during system installation, startup, and commissioning activities. This role involves analyzing process control documentation, serving as a subject matter expert for PLC programming and HMI development, and supporting compliance with quality standards. The engineer will develop strategies for modernizing legacy automation platforms and independently engineer sophisticated process control and automation systems for complex industrial applications. Responsibilities include defining instrumentation and hardware requirements, evaluating technical solutions for optimization, leading the architecture and design of industrial IT environments, and designing advanced operator interface solutions. The role also requires preparing and maintaining detailed engineering deliverables, technical reports, design packages, and project documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience may be considered
- Typically requires 10 or more years of experience in automation, controls engineering, or a related technical field
- Minimum of 3 years performing at a senior project engineering level within control systems integration or a comparable role
- Advanced knowledge of interpreting process control drawings, instrumentation diagrams, and electrical schematics
- Extensive experience with PLC platforms, HMI applications, and industrial automation technologies
- Strong understanding of control system migration projects and lifecycle modernization initiatives
- Proven ability to engineer and implement complex control system solutions with minimal oversight
- Demonstrated expertise in developing sophisticated operator interface and visualization systems
- Strong technical writing skills with the ability to create comprehensive engineering and design documentation

Responsibilities

- Analyze process control documentation, including P&IDs, electrical schematics, and wiring drawings, and identify discrepancies between design intent and field conditions
- Serve as a subject matter expert for PLC programming, HMI development, and industrial automation solutions
- Support ongoing compliance with organizational quality standards and quality management processes
- Develop strategies for modernizing and transitioning legacy automation and control platforms to current technologies
- Independently engineer sophisticated process control and automation systems for complex industrial applications
- Define and recommend instrumentation, control devices, and associated hardware requirements
- Evaluate technical solutions to optimize performance, reliability, and project cost effectiveness
- Lead the architecture and design of industrial IT environments, including networking, computing infrastructure, and system integration components
- Design advanced operator interface solutions that enhance system usability and operational visibility
- Prepare and maintain detailed engineering deliverables, technical reports, design packages, and project documentation
