About The Position

This role provides strategic support and advisory at the Property & Casualty group level. It centers on turning business performance, customer insights, and leadership perspectives into clear updates, presentations, and recommendations for senior leaders. It also includes leading special projects to explore new strategic opportunities across Property & Casualty. The work requires close coordination across teams to gather input, conduct outside research, synthesize recommendations, align messaging, and ensure materials are accurate, relevant, and useful for decision-making. It also contributes to longer-term strategic priorities tied to growth, underwriting, customer experience, and the use of artificial intelligence to improve how the business serves customers and partners. At Nationwide, the Office of Corporate Strategy exists to help executive leadership across our businesses - Property Casualty, Financial Services and Corporate Development - approach strategic decision-making to decide how to build the most value for the company in a way that supports Nationwide’s mission and vision. As a Senior Consultant, you’ll advise and guide Nationwide executives through the industry’s most critical challenges. It’s the management consulting experience, without the travel! As an engagement manager to the business, you’ll lead assignments with profit & loss owners and key parties involved that span the full breadth of Nationwide’s business portfolio. Success will depend on your ability to forge positive relationships, distill results oriented strategies out of complex issues and facilitate decisions with support from a group of high-performing professionals. Requirements

  • Demonstrated academic success.
  • Proven knowledge of strategy planning, project management tools, concepts, and methodologies.
  • Significant leadership experience with strategic projects, from either a top tier consulting firm or a Fortune 100 strategy planning group.
  • Proven ability to use business and industry knowledge.
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills including the ability to structure problems, identifies core issues, articulate problem statements, lead problem solving discussions, and separate issues into discrete work streams that result in solutions.
  • Demonstrated competency in clearly presenting thoughts, ideas and concepts both verbally in individual and group settings and in writing.
  • Must demonstrate ability to provide impactful advice/solutions to parties involved and business partners and builds effective partnerships with business partners ensuring priorities are aligned.
  • Demonstrated competency in utilization of approaches/tools customary to strategy professionals and demonstrates key areas of effective project management such as scope definition, time management, cost analysis, human resources management, risk assessment and management.
  • Able to work and handle large, complex projects.
  • Ability to lead and develop engaged, high performing project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with business leaders to identify, evaluate and pursue strategic opportunities, ranging from organic growth to new business line development to operating model redesign
  • Leads strategic projects for the Office of the CEO (OCEO), Management Committee, or business unit leadership teams to successfully realize those opportunities. For each strategy, determines where we will play, how we will win, and what decisions or trade-offs we must make.
  • Organizes, facilitates and leads project teams of relevant parties involved from across Nationwide’s corporate and business unit functions to drive business results.
  • Advises and coordinates the corporate or business level strategy planning process, which produces a three-year corporate and/or business unit strategic plan tied to financial implications.
  • Establishes and implements mechanisms to translate strategic plans into business unit operational plans.
  • Interprets financial, statistical and other data to observe the impact and efficacy of Nationwide’s defined strategies
  • Coordinates the consultation, preparation and communication of evaluation findings and recommendations to all levels of management, including the Board of Directors, OCEO, Strategy leadership team and business unit leadership teams
  • Establishes and maintains external relationships with other industry specialists and thought leaders to facilitate internal innovation and strategic vision.
  • Engages in continuous improvement of the department, self and others.
  • Actively develops associates in problem solving and communication skills and other areas of thought leadership, collaboration and professional expertise.
