About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the cloud runs smoothly. This involves managing all AWS data centers and the associated servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment to guarantee customer access to innovation. The role involves tackling complex challenges within a supply chain with thousands of variables and seeks talented individuals to contribute. You will join a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers, collaborating across AWS to uphold the highest standards of safety and security while delivering infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost. As a Data Center Construction Manager (CM), you will be part of a dynamic team focused on constructing Amazon Data Centers, which are recognized for their energy-efficient and cost-effective designs. You will own project scope, quality, schedule, and budget for new builds and capital projects, manage and oversee construction-related activities, and collaborate with partner teams like Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning. You will act as a leader in your discipline and represent Amazon's owner's representative on construction sites daily, interacting with construction trades. Requirements

  • Experience constructing electrical engineering systems including large scale power distribution/generation gear and mechanical engineering systems including cooling systems
  • Experience in construction management or construction program management of large, complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) plants
  • Experience in construction of data center delivery (design, commissioning and construction), mission critical facilities, or equivalent industrial/manufacturing facility builds
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or an equivalent engineering science +7 years of related construction management experience OR 11+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 6 years of general contractor and vendor management experience (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in project control (cost or schedule, or both) and formulating construction programmes, especially for infrastructure and mission critical projects both on-site and in preconstruction environments
  • Experience delivering multi-media environmental due diligence, permitting, and compliance projects with specific expertise in CWA 404 and NPDES permitting, groundwater protection, wastewater discharge, and natural and cultural resource evaluations

Responsibilities

  • Be Amazon’s construction representative on multiple data centers building and capital improvement construction project sites from construction start through hand-off to operations.
  • Direct interface with construction general contractors during the construction bidding, award, execution, punch-list, and closeout phases.
  • Create construction project scope and request for proposals.
  • Conduct negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids and proposals with detail and accuracy.
  • Manage and drive cost, schedule, and quality while managing construction contractors and vendors.
  • Perform construction project management activities, including management of documents, submittits, RFIs, change orders, invoices, quality, scope, and schedule.
  • Drive construction teams to troubleshoot and perform root-cause failure analysis on equipment failures.
  • Support commissioning and integrated system testing and oversight.
  • Support operations of installed facilities, including review of procedures, best practices, and maintenance initiatives.
  • Support capital request creation.
  • Analyze and report construction progress and financials.
  • Record and report key construction metrics to team members and management.
  • Contribute to construction initiatives aimed at improving construction efficiency and increasing data center resiliency.
  • Provide constructability reviews for electrical and mechanical designs for new or optimization of existing data centers.
