Certerra-RMA Group is a consulting firm with over 65 years of quality service that offers professional services throughout the United States in the fields of geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, construction materials engineering and testing, nondestructive testing, and welding inspection. Job Summary: Supervise and coordinate daily activities of laboratory and field technicians performing construction materials testing and inspection services. Manage testing operations involving soils, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, masonry, and other construction materials in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, and project-specific requirements. Review, verify, and approve testing data, reports, and documentation for accuracy and completeness. Schedule personnel and allocate resources to support project demands and client deadlines. Monitor technician performance and provide coaching, training, and mentorship to promote technical development and career growth. Ensure laboratory and field operations comply with company quality management systems, accreditation requirements, and industry standards. Oversee calibration, maintenance, and inventory of laboratory and field-testing equipment. Assist project managers and engineers with project planning, staffing, budgeting, and technical problem-solving. Serve as a technical resource for clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders. Identify non-conforming materials, testing discrepancies, and quality concerns, and recommend corrective actions. Promote and enforce company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance. Support audits, accreditation reviews, and inspections conducted by clients, DOT agencies, and accreditation organizations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 5–10 years of progressive experience in construction materials testing and inspection.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of supervisory or leadership experience within a materials testing, geotechnical, or construction quality control environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, ICC, and applicable state DOT standards and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and personnel simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Experience reviewing technical reports and ensuring data quality.
  • Proficiency with laboratory management systems, electronic reporting software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Geology, or a related field preferred.
  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I
  • ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician
  • NICET Level III or IV in Construction Materials Testing
  • ICC Special Inspector Certifications
  • State DOT certifications for soils, concrete, aggregate, and asphalt testing
  • Nuclear Density Gauge Safety Certification
  • Certified Aggregate Technician
  • Laboratory Quality Systems or Laboratory Management training
  • Additional technical certifications related to geotechnical engineering, construction inspection, or quality assurance
