About The Position

GFT is seeking a Sr. Construction Inspector to join their Construction Team in St. Louis, MO. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at their St. Louis, MO office. GFT is committed to excellence, safety, innovation, and sustainability in their construction and program management services. They oversee every construction phase to ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards. This role inspects and oversees construction work to ensure compliance with plans and specifications, serves as a daily point of contact with clients and contractors, and manages all aspects of a project including construction observations, material testing, and documentation.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• 10+ years progressive experience in transportation engineering and inspection of bridge and/or highway structures on state MODOT, municipal, and/or multimodal projects.
• A safety-first mindset.
• Strong writing, listening and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• ACI Field and/or Strength, Troxler or similar state MODOT certification are recommended, but not required.
• Ability to work collaboratively with peers, clients and contractors to solve problems and conflicts.
• Ability and desire to lead.

Responsibilities

• Measure distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of structural installations and layouts.
• Verify levels, alignment, and elevation of installations.
• Observe work in progress to ensure that procedures followed, and materials used conform to specifications.
• Prepare samples of materials for laboratory testing.
• Examine workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standard and approves installation.
• Interpret plans and specifications for Contractor and discuss deviations from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction.
• Record quantities of materials received or used during specified periods, develop pay estimates and change orders.
• Maintain daily log of construction and inspection activities and compare progress reports.
• Monitor several types of work activity, however not simultaneously.
• Maintain construction safety practices and work methods for compliance.
• Manage documents using electronic platforms such as AASHTOWare, e-Builder, or Transport.
