About The Position

This is a remote position for a Sr. Cobol Consultant with IRS experience. The role involves developing and modifying AIMS COBOL programs, ECL scripts, and batch processes. Key responsibilities include gathering and analyzing requirements from IRS business units, creating and maintaining functional and technical documentation, performing code development and enhancements, conducting code reviews, designing and executing test plans, supporting database updates, participating in design reviews, preparing release packages, and ensuring compliance with IRS Enterprise Life Cycle (ELC) standards.

Requirements

Strong experience in UNISYS COBOL, ECL, IPF, CMPlus
Knowledge of AIMS, IDRS, and IRS Masterfiles
Experience with mainframe development and batch processing
Expertise in requirements gathering and documentation (MS Word, DocIT)
Familiarity with testing frameworks (Unit, ISAT, Regression)
Ability to work in agile /iterative or structured lifecycle environments
Prior IRS experience required

Understanding of tax systems and compliance processes

Responsibilities

Develop and modify AIMS COBOL programs, ECL scripts, and batch processes
Gather and analyze requirements from IRS business units (SBSE, W&I, TEGE, etc.)
Create and maintain Functional Specification Plans (FSPs) and technical documentation
Perform code development, enhancements, and defect resolution
Conduct code reviews and ensure alignment with requirements and system integrity
Design and execute Unit and ISAT test plans
Support database updates and conversion programs
Participate in design reviews (Logical & Physical) and system architecture activities
Prepare release packages and manage deployments using CMPlus
Ensure compliance with IRS Enterprise Life Cycle (ELC) standards
