About The Position

Farnsworth Group is seeking an experienced Sr. Civil Engineer to focus on the planning, design, and management of various civil engineering projects including water/wastewater/stormwater and transportation projects for local and government agencies. This role involves preparing construction and design documents, collaborating with other disciplines, attending meetings, communicating planning objectives, preparing proposals, assisting with business development, interacting with regulatory authorities, leading teams, mentoring engineers, managing client relationships, and conducting field observations.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Civil Engineering.
  • 15 + years of related civil engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or actively seeking licensure.
  • Federal, State, local regulatory authorities, IDOT experience.
  • Experience working with municipal and private clients.
  • AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GeoPak, SS4, MicroStation or OpenRoads experience.
  • Team experience with multiple ongoing projects.
  • Contract development skills.
  • Construction engineering and observation knowledge

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Floodplain Manager a plus.
  • IDOT – MFT project experience a plus.
  • Sanitary sewer, water line and storm water management design experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, complete and manage a variety of municipal and some private owner driven civil engineering projects from inception to completion.
  • Prepare and develop construction, design documents and plans.
  • Collaborate with other Farnsworth Group disciplines and consultants.
  • Occasional project, city staff and board meetings.
  • Communicate planning objectives for clients current and future projects.
  • Prepare project proposals.
  • Assist with business development efforts and development of projects.
  • Interaction with IDOT, IEPA, County, MWRD, and understanding of project submittals.
  • Team leader and mentoring younger engineers.
  • Manage, support, and build relationships with clients and agencies.
  • Conduct project field observation and condition assessments.
