Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Finance, or related field; or a combination of equivalent education and work experience.
  • Five (5) years preferred of purchasing, strategic sourcing, capital procurement, engineering, manufacturing, or related experience.
  • Knowledge of capital equipment, automation systems, tooling, facilities projects, and industrial manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to apply quantitative analysis skills with a fundamental understanding of material, labor, burden structures, and cost drivers.
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze equipment quotations, project budgets, supplier proposals, and total cost of ownership.
  • Strong understanding of capital project management and procurement processes.
  • Experience with competitive bidding, contract negotiation, and supplier management.
  • Knowledge of cost reduction methodologies including VA/VE, global sourcing, standardization, and project optimization.
  • Ability to interpret equipment specifications, technical drawings, statements of work, and project schedules.
  • Strong financial and quantitative analysis skills including ROI, payback, NPV, and investment justification concepts.
  • Working knowledge of APQP, manufacturing systems, automation technologies, and industrial equipment procurement.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple capital projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex commercial and project-related issues.
  • Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, project management, and database applications.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manages the sourcing, procurement, and commercial activities associated with capital equipment, tooling, facilities, automation, and infrastructure investments in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Supports engineering, manufacturing, operations, and program teams through strategic sourcing, supplier management, cost analysis, and project execution to achieve company objectives.
  • Provides capital procurement expertise, recommendations, and direction to project teams.
  • Generally completes the following duties and responsibilities with the support of purchasing management.
  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities Generally assigned to high-complexity capital equipment, tooling, automation, facilities, and infrastructure projects.
  • Develops and utilizes knowledge of capital equipment markets, supplier capabilities, and cost structures to achieve cost reduction and investment optimization objectives through competitive sourcing, market testing, value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE), and total cost of ownership analysis.
  • Develops sourcing strategies for capital expenditures (CapEx) and presents recommendations to management for approval.
  • Leads commercial negotiations for capital equipment, tooling, facility expansions, automation systems, services, and installation contracts.
  • Supports manufacturing, operations, facilities, and engineering teams with sourcing activities while ensuring alignment to approved project budgets, timing, technical requirements, and corporate purchasing strategies.
  • Prepares bid analyses and sourcing recommendations based on cost, quality, technical capability, supplier capacity, project timing, and risk assessment.
  • Evaluates supplier quotations, identifies cost-saving opportunities, challenges supplier assumptions, and negotiates competitive pricing and contractual terms.
  • Establishes pricing and commercial agreements in a timely manner and maintains all required supporting documentation.
  • Supports project teams during equipment design, specification development, supplier selection, equipment acceptance, and project implementation phases.
  • Conducts supplier capability assessments, commercial evaluations, and capacity reviews for capital projects.
  • Negotiates and manages engineering changes, scope modifications, and project-related commercial impacts throughout equipment installation and launch phases.
  • Collaborates with engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, finance, operations, and project management personnel to ensure successful project execution.
  • Supports capital appropriation requests by developing cost estimates, sourcing strategies, and supplier recommendations.
  • Maintains accurate records of capital expenditures, supplier contracts, project savings, and investment approvals.
  • Drives continuous improvement initiatives and cost reduction projects related to manufacturing equipment, facilities, and automation investments.
  • Assists purchasing management with development of presentations and business cases for executive leadership approval of capital investments
  • Supports supplier performance management activities related to quality, delivery, installation, commissioning, and warranty performance.
  • Ensures compliance with company purchasing policies, financial controls, and capital approval processes
  • Supports Internal/External Audit efforts regarding ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949 requirements applicable to capital sourcing activities.
  • Supports the requirements as detailed in Standard Operating Procedure 8000 (Quality Management System).
  • Ensures work is performed in a manner consistent with organizational health, safety, environmental, and sustainability objectives.
