As a Senior Buyer for GM Energy, you will be responsible for purchasing all or a specific portion of productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling, software, and/or services. You will actively participate in the development of commodity strategy, sourcing and negotiations, global/regional material budget execution, and collaboration with suppliers and internal partners. The work is sophisticated in nature and involves a considerable amount of initiative, analytical work, and judgment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant purchasing or supply chain experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally, both internally and externally, and to build strong relationships.
  • Experience developing and executing sourcing processes, contracts, and unique purchasing deviations/solutions.
  • Experience handling commercial issues with suppliers and assessing supplier performance.
  • Proven competence in negotiation skills.
  • High level of analytical ability where problems can be somewhat complex.
  • Experience with supply chain and logistics challenges.
  • Strong professional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Developed organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice To Haves

  • Specific commodity experience preferred: hardware, software, services.
  • Experience with commodities (e.g., metals, stampings, castings, plastics, resins, paint, electronics)
  • Automotive and/or Energy industry experience.
  • Knowledge of procurement software and tools.
  • Knowledge of materials management principles and practices.
  • Ability to interpret and apply market data to sourcing and negotiation strategies.
  • Proven knowledge of contract law and its application to purchasing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all sourcing and contracting activities, including sourcing event bid strategy and management, bid analytics, and coordination of RFQ package components.
  • Align and manage RFQ documentation, including Terms & Conditions, Statements of Requirements (SOR), and RFQ materials, in adherence with GM Audit Services requirements.
  • Prepare and drive leadership sourcing recommendations, alignment, and approvals.
  • Drive commercial budget activities for assigned commodities, including cost modeling and savings tracking.
  • Perform rate management activities, including benchmarking, rate analysis, and identifying read-across opportunities.
  • Work closely with GM Energy, Finance, Legal, Supply Chain and other cross-functional partners, at both the working and leadership levels, to deliver results, ideas, and updates.
  • Serve as a primary commercial interface with suppliers on a day-to-day basis.
  • Support supply chain activities and disruptions by working with internal teams and suppliers to find alternative solutions.
  • Support supplier management initiatives, including Strategic Supplier Engagement.
  • Cultivate relationships with strategic suppliers by acting as the focal point for commercial issue resolution.
  • Participate in supplier performance reviews and support development of improvement plans where necessary.
