About The Position

KLDiscovery is seeking a versatile Senior BI Developer to join their Business Intelligence team. This role is responsible for modernizing the company's monthly billing data pipeline, which processes tens of thousands of billing line items from SQL Server into the financial system of record. The goal is to improve processing speed, enhance data quality detection at the source, automate repetitive tasks, and transition from a monthly batch model to a continuous, automated billing process. The developer will own features end-to-end, from database to internal user tools, in a high-impact environment where their work directly influences the company's payment cycle.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional experience as a BI Developer, Data Developer, Data Engineer, or similar.
  • Strong SQL Server / T-SQL skills, including complex queries, stored procedures, and performance tuning (reading execution plans, indexing strategy, writing SARGable / set-based logic).
  • Practical experience building, deploying, and scheduling SSIS ETL packages.
  • Proficiency in Python for data work and automation (e.g., pandas, database connectivity like pyodbc; comfort calling and building REST APIs).
  • Experience with R for data analysis and statistical work.
  • Solid grasp of relational data modeling and data-quality principles.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work directly with non-technical stakeholders in finance and operations.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote (US business hours) team and manage own delivery.

Nice To Haves

  • Azure DevOps / CI-CD for database projects (SSDT/DACPAC) is a strong plus.
  • Experience with REST API design and integration, especially with ERP or financial systems (Oracle is a plus).
  • Reporting experience (SSRS, Power BI, or similar).
  • Machine-learning exposure (e.g., scikit-learn) for classification/recommendation problems.
  • Awareness of SOX / ITGC or other financial-controls and audit requirements.
  • Background in finance, billing, revenue, or ERP domains.

Responsibilities

  • Build and tune the data pipeline, developing and optimizing SQL Server stored procedures and SSIS packages for monthly billing data assembly and delivery to the financial system. Profile and fix root causes of slow processes, including execution plans, indexing, and set-based rewrites.
  • Automate data movement, transformation, and validation between SQL Server and downstream systems using Python services and scheduled jobs, including REST API integrations with the ERP.
  • Design and implement data quality frameworks with required-field, range, referential-integrity, and duplicate checks to quarantine bad data at ingestion.
  • Utilize R and Python for data analysis, anomaly detection, and developing models to assist billing decisions, such as mapping recommendations and eligibility scoring.
  • Enhance internal reporting and data-quality tooling used by billing and operations teams.
  • Follow team coding standards, write maintainable and well-documented code, participate in code reviews, and test changes before release.
  • Collaborate with operations, finance, and analyst stakeholders to automate processes and address pain points.
