About The Position

Our high-performance genomic analytics platform is designed to bridge the gap between massive-scale raw sequencing and actionable biological insight. The system simplifies genomic data workflows by providing a scalable platform and pipelines to work with genomic data of petabyte-scale cohorts. The project is written by multidisciplinary teams with bioinformaticians who understand the domain and software engineers with a product engineering mindset. We are seeking a highly autonomous and preferably product-minded Senior Bioinformatics Engineer. This critical role requires deep knowledge of bioinformatics, experience with software engineering, and a willingness to collaborate closely with engineers to explain complex biological concepts and collaboratively design robust solutions. We're looking for a proactive person who is able to collaborate on product engineering initiatives inside a cross-functional team. A strong background in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related scientific field. Candidates who can help us nurture this knowledge within the team. Extensive experience with large-scale data processing and analysis pipelines (e.g., WES, WGS, RNA-Seq, Proteomics). Proficiency with relevant bioinformatics tools and databases, and their possible integration into Agentic Pipelines. Familiarity with clinical genomics and integration with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems is a benefit.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience in software development in Python, in a bioinformatics or life science context.
  • Experience performing large-scale genomic association, burden, and polygenic analyses (e.g., with REGENIE, SAIGE), including upstream data preparation, quality control, and cohort construction.
  • Working knowledge of clinical genomics workflows, including EHR and FHIR-based genomic data exchange preferable.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams (scientists, product managers, engineers).
  • Bioinformatics knowledge and ability to work with engineers to translate the research concepts into a newly developed solution.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with clinical genomics and integration with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems is a benefit.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop distributed data models, storage schemas, and query engines optimized for genomic and multi-omic data at scale on the DNAnexus Platform.
  • Build scalable, production-grade framework components for the DNAnexus Platform to support genomic and multi-omic analytical workflows.
  • Share bioinformatics knowledge within the team of engineers for the purpose of building a product together within a team.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in bioinformatics data management and analytics to drive platform innovation.
