Requirements

  • 20+ years of commercial HVAC and BAS experience across service and/or construction.
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret schematics, control drawings, sequences, submittals, and risers.
  • Proven experience with BAS installation, commissioning, controller configuration, and system integration.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently while leading others.
  • BAS platform certifications or training (Metasys, Tridium, FX, Distech, Siemens, etc.).
  • Experience leading BAS install teams, startup crews, or service technicians.
  • Experience with large-tonnage equipment, hydronic systems, VFDs, and airflow diagnostics.
  • Demonstrated success on retrofit, modernization, and complex commissioning projects.
  • Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and tight-access environments.
  • Ability to lift, move, and handle tools, materials, and equipment required for the job.

Responsibilities

  • Commission, troubleshoot, program, and optimize BAS and HVAC systems to ensure proper integration, functionality, and performance.
  • Execute work across construction projects, retrofits, and service environments, including occupied facilities.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource and escalation point for complex mechanical, electrical, and controls issues.
  • Interface directly with customers, general contractors, project managers, and internal teams to ensure work is installed per scope, executed safely, and turned over cleanly.
  • Represent the company as a trusted technical and customer partner, with future responsibility for customer success and relationship management.
  • Lead and oversee BAS field installation activities, including controller placement, panel mounting, device installation, and network topology verification.
  • Perform point-to-point checkouts, wiring validation, sensor and actuator calibration, and device addressing.
  • Load, configure, and adjust controllers and sequences within approved scope and standards.
  • Lead startup, functional performance testing, and commissioning activities; validate sequences of operation and resolve deficiencies.
  • Coordinate closely with electricians, mechanical contractors, general contractors, and other trades to resolve conflicts and maintain project schedules.
  • Develop redlines, markups, and as-built corrections to support engineering updates and project closeout.
  • Support project managers with submittal reviews, material tracking, equipment schedules, and coordination meetings.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and controls issues across commercial HVAC systems, including RTUs, AHUs, chillers, boilers, VAVs, and hydronic systems.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics utilizing trend data, metering, pressure/temperature analysis, and sequence validation.
  • As directed, execute preventive maintenance, corrective repairs, and system optimization with a strong first-time-fix mindset.
  • Identify and recommend retrofit, upgrade, and optimization opportunities discovered during service activity.
  • Modify, test, and validate BAS programming, logic blocks, alarms, schedules, and graphics in accordance with internal standards.
  • Support commissioning and turnover for both service and construction projects.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve communication and integration issues (BACnet, MS/TP, IP-based systems, and proprietary networks).
  • Act as a senior, customer-facing technical resource, clearly communicating findings, system performance, and recommendations.
  • Provide field-driven recommendations for system improvements, energy strategies, and long-term reliability.
  • Support sales and project teams with site assessments, scope clarifications, and technical documentation.
  • Serve as the foundation for future Customer Success Manager–type responsibilities, ensuring customer satisfaction, trust, and repeat business.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for BAS, HVAC, and system integration challenges.
  • Mentor and train junior technicians, reinforcing troubleshooting methodology, quality expectations, and safety practices.
  • Lead small installation, startup, or commissioning crews on projects as required.
  • Prepare for future responsibility managing technicians, leading teams, and contributing to workforce development.
  • Accurately complete service reports, commissioning forms, punch lists, as-builts, and turnover documentation.
  • Assist with closeout packages, O&M manuals, and customer training.
  • Ensure documentation supports billing milestones, warranty compliance, and long-term system support.
  • Lead by example in compliance with all safety requirements, including LOTO, PPE, fall protection, confined space, and electrical safety.
  • Provide onsite safety leadership when directing or working alongside other technicians or subcontractors.
  • Willingness and availability to work shutdowns, extended hours, nights, weekends, and overtime as required to meet project schedules, commissioning timelines, and customer commitments.
