About The Position

Pinwheel is building the next generation of financial products alongside major brands like Robinhood, DoorDash, and American Express. The company has raised $77M from top investors and is looking for a senior backend-leaning Product Engineer to join their Product Engineering team. This team builds customer-facing products such as public APIs, embedded SDKs, and a customer management dashboard. The team is lean, works closely with Product, and operates at high velocity, balancing customer support, roadmap delivery, product improvement, and system maintenance.

Requirements

5+ years of experience building and maintaining back-end or full-stack applications, specifically with data modeling, application logic, and API design.
Prior experience working at an early-stage startup or small tech company.
Deep expertise with modern back-end languages/frameworks (e.g. FastAPI, Django, Rails, Gin).
Working experience with modern frontend web frameworks (React, Vue, etc.).
Played key implementation roles in projects with multiple teams and engineers.
Excited by working closely with customers.
Responsibly uses AI on top of fundamental skills, doesn’t replace them.
Maintains a high bar for technical quality and continues to level up.

Responsibilities

Help build the Bill Switch product for migrating users' subscription spend.
Contribute to a new API version to improve contracts and formalize product direction.
Firm up and improve the tax product for the upcoming tax season.
Clean up old code and improve the codebase.
Build a new customer dashboard API aligned with the existing stack.
Build new integrations with banking platform partners and improve existing ones.
Deeply understand customer needs and design systems to solve them.
Build, scale, and evolve data models, services, and systems powering APIs.
Design and ship impactful new functionality in products, focusing on back-end APIs.
Maintain and improve the Python-based microservice stack.
Create and improve tooling, processes, and engineering standards.
Mentor engineers and help the team grow.
