About The Position

This position is responsible for supporting the design, layout, analysis, testing, and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices and systems for power switchboards and circuit breakers used in Navy-based electronic systems. The engineer applies practical mechanical engineering knowledge to develop and document mechanical designs, support product development efforts, and help resolve product or process issues for new and updated hardware. Under moderate supervision, this role works independently on moderately complex assignments and supports larger project efforts from concept through production. Responsibilities include 3D modeling, drafting, mechanical packaging, structural and thermal analysis support, interpretation of specifications, and implementation of customer and documentation requirements. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams including electrical engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and test to help achieve project objectives, schedules, and product performance requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
  • Practical knowledge of mechanical engineering design, and documentation.
  • Experience using 3D CAD software in a design environment.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings, mechanical layouts, and product documentation.
  • Experience interpreting engineering specifications, standards, and technical requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SolidWorks preferred.
  • Experience with Navy, military, or commercial specifications for design and environmental qualification testing.
  • Experience working with power switchboards, circuit breakers, or similar low/medium-voltage, or high-power equipment.
  • Experience creating detailed mechanical drawings, assemblies, bills of material, and engineering change documentation.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Familiarity with structural, static, dynamic, modal, or thermal analysis tools and methods.
  • Experience with mechanical packaging and enclosure design for electronic equipment.
  • Familiarity with PLM systems and engineering change processes.
  • Experience with materials selection, hardware, and manufacturing processes, including additive manufacturing.
  • Ability to work independently on moderately complex assignments under moderate supervision.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical documentation such as design reports, drawing notes, and test support documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the design, layout, development, and documentation of mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies for power switchboards, circuit breakers, and related equipment.
  • Reviews and interprets customer specifications, internal requirements, and applicable military/industry standards to determine mechanical, structural, thermal, environmental, and safety-related design considerations.
  • Develops 3D models, detail drawings, assemblies, bills of material, and engineering documentation in accordance with program and company standards.
  • Performs or supports structural, thermal, and mechanical analyses to evaluate design feasibility and compliance within time and cost constraints.
  • Supports product development activities including concept evaluation, layout development, drawing interpretation, and implementation of customer documentation requirements.
  • Coordinates with cross-functional engineering disciplines, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and test organizations to support design maturation and production readiness.
  • Supports manufacturing builds, integration activities, troubleshooting, and qualification testing as needed.
  • Processes and manages engineering changes for assigned work using PLM tools and established configuration management processes.
  • Interfaces with customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to explain and interpret design requirements, processes, and documentation related to the job area.
  • Supports cost, schedule, and technical performance objectives for assigned tasks with some impact on department and program results.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance.
