About The Position

The Sr. Associate IT Engineer supports PSEG’s Nuclear Real-Time Systems (Operations Technology) team and participates in the full system life cycle, including designing, coding, testing, implementing, and supporting application software and systems. The role works closely with Analysts and Product Managers to understand business requirements and develop physical and technical solutions. Assignments may involve development, such as installing new systems and upgrades, or support, such as maintaining existing applications and resolving issues. The engineer supports nuclear operational technology, including plant process computers and physical security systems. The role includes system programming, analysis, troubleshooting, cybersecurity monitoring and incident response, and support for NRC inspections. It also provides support for critical operational systems on a weekly rotating 24/7 basis. The position is hybrid, with at least three onsite days per week, and is located in Hancocks Bridge, New Jersey.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or Information Sciences.
Typically 0–3 years of work experience in Information Technology.
Ability to learn new business and technical concepts.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Flexibility and willingness to accept changes in priorities as necessary.
Strong attention to detail.
Basic knowledge of practical engineering science and technology relevant to the role, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of goods and services.
Ability to create technical and non-technical end-user documentation.
Ability to work independently using individual and team goals as guidance.
Familiarity with Linux operating systems.
Ability to obtain ESP (Engineering Support Population) certification.
Ability to obtain 10 CFR 810 access and maintain fitness-for-duty requirements.
Compliance with Department of Energy regulation 10 CFR 810 is required.
Must meet nuclear requirements for unescorted site access.
A valid Real ID or an approved alternate form of documentation is required.
If applicable, must meet the stated citizenship, residency, or protected-individual eligibility conditions for access to information covered by Department of Energy regulation 10 CFR 810.

Nice To Haves

Experience with MongoDB or MSSQL databases.
Additional experience with mission-critical OT environments or cybersecurity controls.
Experience translating business requirements into system functional and non-functional requirements.
Demonstrated understanding of projects from both client and business perspectives.

Responsibilities

Analyze end-user needs and design, develop, and test solutions.
Partner with business analysts to translate business requirements into application requirements.
Create process flowcharts, diagrams, technical workflows, and related documentation using different modeling techniques.
Ensure designs and system implementations meet security and quality assurance standards.
Analyze defects, including their root causes and impacts, and suggest fixes.
Analyze system reports to verify functionality and performance against product and service-level requirements.
Install, configure, and troubleshoot servers, desktops, Cisco networks, operating systems, and virtual hosts using a disciplined development process.
Perform work requiring skills across multiple technical environments and knowledge of a specific business area.
Support engineering modifications, technical evaluations, and OT fleet peer-group collaboration.
Apply operational break fixes and proactive maintenance until permanent solutions can be implemented.
Support and participate in maintenance of plant process computers, physical security systems, and other nuclear OT systems.
Conduct cybersecurity monitoring and periodic activities, respond to incidents, and support NRC inspections.
Perform system programming, analysis, and troubleshooting across Windows, Linux/Unix, and OpenVMS platforms.
Provide 24/7 support for critical operational systems on a weekly rotating basis.
