About The Position

Royal Caribbean Group is seeking a Sr. Associate, Architectural Design, to manage and coordinate architectural design work for newbuild, revitalization, or refurbishment projects. This role involves planning, managing, and guiding design processes, while effectively coordinating with and guiding external architectural, interior design, and consultancy firms worldwide. The Sr. Associate will collaborate with management to review drawings and proposals, recommend decisions, and contribute innovative solutions. The position requires ensuring design intent is clear and consistent with executive and brand directives, applying brand and design standards, and assisting with material delivery timelines. The role also involves coordinating VR/IT initiatives, analyzing statistical information from various ships, supporting the creation of brand-design decks, and assisting with cost control and practicality reviews. Additionally, the Sr. Associate will support shop drawing reviews, yard/contractor coordination, mockup reviews, factory visits, and inspections during newbuilding and drydock periods, while staying current with industry trends and innovation. Occasional assignments for design concepts, space planning, and detailed drawings may also be required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years design industry experience required.
  • Minimum of 2 years managing large scale projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Interior Design required, Architecture preferred.
  • Must possess skills in at least 2 of the following: AutoCAD, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Sketchup.
  • Must be effective communicator with project team (and sponsor when required) exhibiting good capabilities in written, oral, and graphic media.
  • Represents department and self in a competent professional manner.
  • Is highly motivated, efficient, and organized.
  • Has fundamental understanding of time management, with priorities being established by supervisor.
  • Works on multiple projects, and multiple tasks under various team members.
  • Has strong ability to maintain focus.
  • Ability to travel internationally or domestically 15% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Cruise ship newbuild or revitalization design experience preferred.
  • Graphic design background desirable.
  • Knowledge of cruise ship staterooms or crew areas preferred.
  • Microsoft Project is nice to know.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the design intent is apparent and credible, and that the voice of the Executive Steering Committee and Brand Think Tank is communicated clearly and consistently throughout the design process.
  • Applies and ensures the brand & design standards, CADD & drawing standards, and contract references, assisting Supervisor with oversight that project materials are delivered on a timely basis.
  • Receives guidance and coordination from Sr. Associate and Manager on unusual or complex issues.

  • Upholds SQM practices throughout all design phases.
  • Regularly attends meetings with sponsors (clients).
  • Coordinates VR/IT Initiatives. Operates CAVE with skill.
  • Studies, collects, shares, compares, stores statistical information, and analyzes various ships and areas bringing forth observations.
  • Supports creation, building of foundational brand-design decks and immersion decks. Creates reports for management, brings visibility to project progress.
  • Assists with cost complexity balancing along with other cost control needs.
  • Regularly assists and occasionally conducts practicality reviews to check that operational, risk or accessibility concerns are being considered in all aspects of design.
  • Assist Sr. Associate with supporting shop drawing review process, and yard/contractor coordination meetings, mockup reviews, factory visits and inspections during newbuilding process and drydock period.
  • Stays current in industry trends and innovation through research and market knowledge.
  • Occasionally accepts assignments for design concepts, space planning, design development, drawings & details (elevations, sections, details) of designated venues.
  • Performs other duties as required.
