Saje Natural WellnessVancouver, BC
CA$105,000 - CA$115,000Hybrid

About The Position

At Saje Natural Wellness, we're nature's original farmacy, blending the superpower of plants so you can remedy real life, naturally. And like nature, we're continually growing! As we continue to build our team, we're seeking talented people to join us: in our stores, support offices, and distribution centres. We are a purpose-driven, people-first organization where collaboration, innovation, and entrepreneurial mindsets thrive. We look for individuals who have drive and warmth, agility and passion, and keep customer experience at the centre of everything they do. At Saje, you’ll connect with a dynamic community and make a positive impact. Join our team and grow your career, alongside the most talented, hardworking, and kind-hearted people out there. The impact you'll make: Reporting to the Chief Brand Officer, as the Senior Art Director, Packaging & Product you can imagine, ideate, design and execute the building of the unique Saje brand world through our packaging and product offerings that continue to push our modern, functional brand of wellness forward for new consumers curious about plant-powered solutions to remedy real life. In this role, you’ll lead product and packaging design from concept through production — spanning rigid and flexible packaging, dispensers, bottles, boxes, textile goods, soft goods and hard goods with a penchant for creativity, craft and relentless focus on purposeful design for the Community Member. This is a hands-on senior role: you’ll set visual direction, own design execution, collaborate with product development, sourcing, marketing and supply chain, and mentor designers. You know materials, manufacturing constraints, regulatory needs for beauty/wellness, and how to design for retail, DTC and wholesale. All Saje Team Members are responsible for contributing to Saje’s culture and maintaining a positive environment for themselves and their peers.

Requirements

  • 7+ years professional experience in product and packaging design
  • Proven track record designing hard goods and soft goods for beauty, personal care, or wellness brands.
  • Strong structural packaging experience: dielines, substrate selection, folding/carton engineering, printing processes (CMYK, Pantone, varnishes, emboss/deboss).
  • Expert-level skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and experience producing CAD/die files; AI for rapid 3D modeling and prototyping tools.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes, cost drivers, sourcing, and production timelines for CPG.
  • Comfortable with physical prototyping — mockups, 3D prints, vendor samples — and translating prototypes into mass-production specs.
  • Clear understanding of regulatory labeling requirements for cosmetics/wellness (INCI, claims, warnings) and how they impact packaging design, specifically for multiple markets.
  • Strong visual sensibility and art direction skills as you will work together with the Brand Creative team to bring products to life via compelling in-store merchandising, wholesale merchandising and ecommerce environments.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to translate creative vision into commercial realities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentorship ability; experience managing external agencies and cross-functional projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end‑to‑product & packaging design for hard and soft goods: concept, ideation, prototyping and sampling, dielines, artwork, specs, and production follow-through.
  • Create compelling visual systems that express brand strategy across product lines and seasonal launches for retail, DTC and wholesale environments.
  • Develop packaging architectures (primary, secondary, shipper), structural mockups, and cost-conscious material options.
  • Design soft goods and textiles — patterns, trims, construction details, and spec sheets for vendors in concert with your team of designers.
  • Produce production-ready files, dielines, tech packs, and QC checklists; partner with the product and sourcing team and suppliers to resolve fit, finish, tooling, and compliance issues.
  • Collaborate and oversee product copywriting, ensuring a fluid process that allows for iteration and on-brand naming and romance from brief to completion.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Development, R&D, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Merchandising to align on feasibility, cost, and timelines.
  • Lead packaging testing process (shelf, transit, compatibility with formulas, shelf life/compatibility notes).
  • Champion material selection and circular packaging solutions; balance aesthetics with cost and supply constraints.
  • Present creative direction and design rationale to leadership and commercial partners; iterate based on feedback.
  • Mentor and provide creative leadership to designers and freelancers.
  • Maintain and evolve the brand asset library (templates, brand guidelines, photography/pack shots standards) as it relates to launches, evergreen work and seasonal moments.
  • Stay current on industry trends, materials, tooling, and retail/packaging innovations and bring these to the forefront of your thinking to both inform work and challenge the status quo of the wellness industry.
