About The Position

As a Senior Engineer, you serve as a specialist on the engineering team that supports the product. You help develop and gain insight into application architecture. You can distill an abstract architecture into concrete design and influence the implementation. You show expertise in applying the appropriate software engineering patterns to build robust and scalable systems. You are an expert in programming and apply your skills in developing the product. You have the skills to design and implement the architecture on your own, but choose to influence your fellow engineers by proposing software designs, and providing feedback on software designs and/or implementation. You show good problem solving skills and can help the team in triaging operational issues. You leverage your expertise in eliminating repeat occurrences. Join the team that brings Target guests their “shopping and saving sidekick” – the guest facing Target Android shopping app. We have Sr Android Engineer opportunities across two teams within Target’s flagship mobile app: Content and Drive Up/Pickup. Team placement will be based on experience, interests, and team alignment. On either team, you’ll work alongside Android and iOS engineers and cross-functional partners to build and evolve high-quality guest experiences at scale. On the Content Apps team, you'll be responsible for the display of server-driven and static content on the Homepage of our Flagship Android app and beyond. You will work with a team of engineers from both Android and iOS who work together to ensure the best possible code quality and Guest experience. By working closely with other Flagship app teams and cross-functional partners you will help to enhance and redefine the Target Guest experience. The Drive Up team builds and supports the Android experiences that power Target’s convenient, store-based order pickup journey. Our products connect guests with store team members throughout the fulfillment process, from order placement and pickup readiness to guest arrival, parking spot selection, order handoff, and post-pickup updates. These experiences are used at significant scale and play an important role in helping Target deliver a fast, convenient, and dependable shopping experience. Our Android applications are developed primarily with Kotlin and modern Android technologies, including Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Flow, Jetpack libraries, and a layered, testable architecture. The team works with distributed backend services and APIs to support real-time order and fulfillment updates, guest notifications, location-based functionality, and communication between guests and store teams. We focus on building responsive user experiences that remain reliable across different network conditions, device configurations, and store environments. Android developers on the team contribute throughout the software development lifecycle. This includes participating in technical design, implementing new features, writing unit and UI tests, improving application performance, monitoring production behavior, and resolving issues that affect guests and store operations. We use modern engineering practices, automated CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, observability, and incremental delivery to maintain a high-quality mobile platform. You will collaborate closely with Android and iOS engineers, backend developers, product managers, designers, QA engineers, data partners, and store operations teams. Together, we solve complex technical and operational problems while improving the reliability, maintainability, and usability of the Drive Up experience. This is an opportunity to work on customer-facing Android applications with meaningful business impact and a broad range of mobile engineering challenges.
