Sr Analytics Developer

PromegaMadison, WI

About The Position

We are a small, mixed-skill team of developers, analysts, and data specialists responsible for Promega's enterprise analytics platform — spanning Power BI reporting, data integration, and a modern cloud-based data platform built on Azure Databricks. We work directly with business stakeholders across the company to turn complex data into decisions, and we are currently expanding into AI-powered conversational analytics. The team operates with a high degree of ownership and autonomy — this is not a place where you wait to be told what to do. You will own the design and delivery of Power BI solutions across assigned business domains — working directly with stakeholders to understand their needs, building models that are accurate and scalable, and making sure the people who use your reports actually trust them. At the same time, you will be a key contributor to our Conversational Analytics initiative, helping business users query data in natural language through AI-powered interfaces built on top of our semantic layer. This is not a support role or a report factory — you will have real influence over how analytics gets built and adopted at a global life sciences company, and the work you deliver will be visible at many levels of the organization.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a data-related field (Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or equivalent) or proven work experience that ensures readiness for the role.
  • 5-7 years of experience in business analytics, BI development, or data engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering production-grade Power BI solutions, including complex DAX, semantic model design, and deployment pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with conversational analytics, natural language querying, or LLM-based data interfaces (e.g., Claude, Copilot for Power BI, Azure OpenAI, Power BI, or similar).
  • Advanced proficiency in Power BI (data modeling, DAX, deployment, workspace management).
  • Strong SQL skills for data querying, transformation, and analysis.
  • Familiarity with lakehouse or cloud data platform patterns (Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, or equivalent).
  • Experience integrating LLM or AI tools into analytics workflows — whether through APIs, connectors, or prompt engineering.
  • Understanding of dimensional modeling (Kimball or equivalent).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and build trust with business stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical thinking.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguous requirements and evolving business needs.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate delivery work across teams without a dedicated project manager.

  • Relevant experience in the Life Sciences industry.

  • Conduct requirements gathering with business stakeholders to define reporting needs, KPIs, and conversational query use cases.
  • Translate ambiguous business problems into clear technical specifications.

  • Use knowledge of the data to support business leaders in making key decisions, serving as a trusted advisor.
  • Monitor, communicate, and resolve data and reporting incidents in a timely manner.
  • Own quality across the reports and models delivered.
  • Proactively identify and implement process improvements within areas of ownership.
  • Evaluate new reporting and analytics tools, including AI-assisted development capabilities, and recommend adoption.
  • Demonstrates inclusion through their own words and actions and is accountable for a safe workspace.
