•$135,100 - $225,100•Remote

About The Position

Dexcom’s R&D organization is building the next generation of AI-powered health experiences. The Senior AI/ML Engineer, focused on AI research, helps shape foundations for future AI capabilities, taking work from problem framing and experimental design through prototyping, validation, and translation into products. The role combines strong software engineering with hands-on expertise in modern AI, including foundation models, generative AI, and predictive modeling, to turn emerging research into reliable, safe, and valuable product capabilities. The engineer partners with engineering, product, clinical, regulatory, commercial, legal, and other stakeholders to bring emerging technologies into real-world health applications. The work is intended to advance Dexcom’s health AI capabilities and support its mission of improving health outcomes.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline and 5–8 years of related experience; or a Master’s degree and 2–5 years of equivalent industry experience; or a PhD and 0–2 years of experience.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals and hands-on experience with Python and modern AI/ML libraries and frameworks.
  • Depth in areas such as deep learning, generative AI, reinforcement learning, and multimodal learning.
  • Experience independently conducting rigorous AI/ML research, from problem formulation and experimental design through validation and communicating results.
  • Experience working with large-scale datasets and cloud-based and distributed computing environments for AI/ML research, model development, and experimentation.
  • Strong software engineering practices and sound experimental methodology to produce reliable, reproducible, and scalable AI research.
  • Responsible-AI mindset, with attention to model safety, reliability, and risk in regulated, high-stakes settings.
  • Demonstrated contribution to the scientific community through conference publications, journal articles, patents, invited talks, or open-source contributions.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 5–15%.

Nice To Haves

  • Current knowledge of AI/ML advances and enthusiasm for exploring new ideas and methods.
  • Passion for Dexcom’s mission and health-sensing applications.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, develop, prototype, and validate novel AI/ML technologies, translating scientific advances into opportunities for future product innovation and building reusable, high-quality research and prototype code.
  • Investigate and advance state-of-the-art approaches, including foundation models, multimodal learning, and time-series modeling, and evaluate their potential for customer, clinical, and business problems.
  • Own system evaluation and safety by defining metrics, benchmarks, and monitoring; identifying model and system risks; and driving mitigations and responsible-AI practices.
  • Lead technical strategy that balances model performance, latency, cost, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Publish and present research at leading conferences and journals, communicate methods and results to technical and non-technical audiences, and contribute to the AI community and Dexcom’s health AI leadership.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders, including R&D, Commercial, Product, Legal, and Regulatory, to align development with company strategy and safety standards.
  • Build and improve research and training infrastructure, including data, experimentation, and CI/CD pipelines, applying reliability, observability, and cost-awareness.

Benefits

  • Full and comprehensive benefits program.
  • Growth opportunities on a global scale.
  • Career development through in-house learning programs and/or qualified tuition reimbursement.
